Atmore Christian still has high championship hopes after defeating South Baldwin, 66-57, last Thursday, February 11, and sending the Rams into the Panhandle Christian Conference Final Four Tournament, which will be played at East Hill Christian in Pensacola, Fla. at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, February 19.
“We are overjoyed with the opportunity to have the chance to win our first championship,” ACS head coach Tim Battles said. “It is a blessing to our team and school to be have the opportunity at hand.”
According to Battles, South Baldwin didn’t make it easy for the Rams.
“South Baldwin played a great game,” he said. “The big difference for us in that game was Emmett Battles. He was on a mission.”
Emmett, younger brother of Caeden Battles, scored a team-high 23 points, 12 of which came from three-point shots. Battles was complemented by his older brother, who scored 15 points, and Gage Gades (8), Reese White and Titus Dean had (7 each) and Dexter Smoker (6).
ACS was slated to play Lighthouse Christian on February 13, but that game was forfeited by Lighthouse. No explanation for the forfeit was given.
If ACS bests East Hill, the Rams will play in the PCC championship game this Saturday, February 20, against the East Conference champions.
