Update
On Friday, January 8. 2021, at the request of Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating an officer‐involved shooting on Friday, January 8, 2021 involving Poarch Tribal Police. One person was injured in the shooting and transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. None of the officers involved were injured. Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, findings will be turned over to Escambia County District Attorney’s Office.
No details yet on Creek Travel Plaza incident
Investigators and officers from Poarch Tribal Police, the county sheriff’s office and the State Bureau of Investigation remained at Creek Travel Plaza after 8 a.m. today (Friday, Jan. 8, following up on an unknown incident that occurred there in the day’s early hours.
The truck stop, located off Interstate 65’s Exit 54, was completely closed to traffic and its front parking lot and entrance were also closed off after the incident, which was first reported around 5 a.m.
Entrances into that portion of the store were roped off with police tape and had officers’ cars blocking access.
A white SUV was parked just to the side of the travel plaza’s front doors. Its back window was shattered, and multiple evidence markers were placed on the ground around the vehicle.
Trucks were still being allowed to enter the back portion of the truck stop for fuel, but other areas were closed off.
