A portion of Alabama Highway 21 will be formally designated as Correctional Officer Kenneth Bettis Memorial Highway during a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, April 12, in the Old House Chambers of the Alabama State Capitol.
The 11:30 a.m. ceremony is designed to honor the life of Bettis, a 44-year-old Monroeville resident and former correctional officer at William C. Holman Correctional Facility.
In September 2016 Bettis was stabbed in the head by a Holman inmate who had been refused an extra lunch tray and eventually succumbed to his wounds.
