Are you a self-published writer? A poet? A songwriter in search of an audience? The Monroeville Literary Festival has a stage for you! Monroeville is the Literary Capital of Alabama, and you are invited to showcase your talent on the Fifteen Minutes of Fame Stage!
Writers of all genres are welcome to submit a sample of their work to MonroevilleLiterary Festival@gmail.com. All submissions must be readable or performable in 15 minutes or less, and must be submitted by noon on Friday, February 7. A jury will review submissions and select 8 participants to fill spots between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, in the Otha Lee Biggs Amphitheater of the Monroe County Museum.
Submissions are welcome from writers of all ages with Alabama connections. Tables will also be available for the selected participants to sell and sign any publications they may have. Selected participants will be informed of their selection by February 21.
According to Alisha Linam, director of the Monroeville Literary Festival, “One of the goals of the Monroeville Literary Festival is to build and develop future generations of writers in the Literary Capital of Alabama. The Fifteen Minutes of Fame Stage could be where we find our next literary legend!”
Budding writers may also be interested in the Monroeville Literary Festival’s free writing workshops on Friday morning at Coastal Alabama Community College in the John D. Forte Library. New authors Gayle Young and Lori Brown will discuss their pathways to publishing beginning at 9 a.m. Halley Cotton from the University of Alabama at Birmingham will offer a poetry workshop at 9 a.m. as well, and Angela Broyles from Bluewater Publishing will give an introduction to publishing at 10 a.m.
The Monroeville Literary Festival is a project of Coastal Alabama Community College. It is made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Sponsors include the City of Monroeville, Alabama River Cellulose, JWJ Investment Properties LLC, the Monroeville / Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, the Monroe County Museum, Monroeville Main Street, the Monroe County Public Library, George Landegger, and Dianne Lawson Baker.
