Beginning April 4, the Area Agency on Aging will present A Matter of Balance, an award-winning program designed to help older adults manage falls and increase activity levels, at Atmore Area YMCA, 501 Pensacola Avenue.
The eight-week class, which will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. once a week, is free and is open to the public.
The program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls, including how to view falls as controllable, how to set goals for increasing activity, how to make changes to reduce falls at home, and how to exercise in such a way as to increase strength and balance.
Those who will most benefit from the class are individuals who are concerned about falls, those who have fallen in the past, those who have restricted activities because of a concern of falling, and anyone interested in improving his or her balance, flexibility and strength.
Class space is limited, so pre-registration is encouraged. To pre-register, or to obtain more information on the class, call the Y at 368-9622 or email to mnettles@sarpc.org.
