The Gamma Omega chapter of The Delta Kappa Society International held its March meeting on March 9 at the home of Nancy Karrick. Two special ladies were present as guests.
Lori Pearson, District VI Director from Mobile, spoke to the ladies about her time and experiences in Delta Kappa Gamma and what she does in her position as a District Director. She also encouraged the women present to attend state functions and become more knowledgeable about the Society to which they belong.
The second visitor was Kristi Ray, who lives in the Atmore area. Kristi brought two types of books she makes to share with the ladies. The first was called a “Boo Book” and those are used mostly for decoration in homes and libraries. One of the ones she brought to share had an Easter theme with bunnies and carrots. Pages had been cut and folded to resemble a carrot. The second type of book was “Blind Date with a Book.” These are actual readable books which are covered in paper and decorated with hints about what kind of book might be inside. The purpose of both types is to encourage reading for all ages by making books look exciting and mysterious, causing the viewer to be curious and want to read the surprise book.
Joanne Bonds and Mary Beth Lancaster were hostesses for the meeting. Members present were Debbi Albritton, Evelyn Bilbo, Joanne Bonds, Connie Hetrick, Nancy Karrick, Mary Beth Lancaster, and Stephanie McGhee.
The next meeting will be April 10 at 5 p.m., in First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
