Malcolm Barry McCord, Jr.
Mr. Malcolm Barry McCord, Jr., a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend passed away at his home on February 24, 2025 surrounded by loving family members. Barry was born May 15, 1951 in Mobile, AL to Malcolm Barry McCord, Sr. and Audrey Dockens McCord. Barry touched many lives with his laughter and wisdom that brought warmth to all who knew him. Barry attended Clark Bible College in Clark, MS. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Atmore. Barry was a Minister and Carpenter most of his life.
As we reflect on this amazing life, we remember Barry as a leader, a protector, and the rock of our family. Barry will always be remembered for his contagious smile and silly phrases. When asked if he had his pocket knife on him, Barry would always say “do I have my pants on?” When asked how he was doing, Barry would always say “I’m tolerable”. And, if you asked Barry how he was doing after his bus route, he’d always say “I’m fair to middling”. Of all the things he said, Barry was never negative. Barry always looked for the positive in things as he did people. Barry believed in not only making himself better, but also the ones around him better. Barry not only supported his wife and kids going to college to better themselves and further their education, but he signed countless loans for his family when he believed they were trying to better themselves. Barry was one of the most selfless men there ever was and believed in us when at times we didn’t believe in ourselves. If you were family, friend, or a stranger, he would go out of his way to help you and literally give you the shirt off of his back. If you knew Barry for any length of time, he either helped you or you saw him help someone else. We all know how great of a man Barry was, but anything written about him is incomplete if we don’t talk about the avid outdoorsman that he was. Yes, he loved the Lord, his amazing wife, Susan and all of their children. But just as much, he loved chasing his grand and great grand babies, the Eastern Wild Turkey, White-tailed Deer, Bull Redfish, and King Mackerel, to name a few. Barry’s favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31. This verse says, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” As Barry prepared to go to his heavenly home, he lived out this verse until his last breath. Barry trusted the Lord and he fought to the very end. There was no doubt that Barry had a renewed strength before his passing. He was never weary nor faint. There is no doubt that Barry mounted up with wings like eagles and flew into Heaven where he will spend his eternity with Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm, Sr. and his daughter, Christina McClure.
Mr. McCord is survived by his loving wife, Susan H. McCord; his five children, Jaynae McCord Nichols, Mark (Dayna) McCord, Glenda Burkett Ardis, Phillip (Miranda) Burkett and Shannon Burkett; thirteen adoring grandchildren, Dustin (Brittany), Cheyenne (Mavis), Christian, Dallas (Makayla), Ricky, Kayleigh, Cameron, Sonny, Madison, Carter, Parker and Malcolm; three cherished great-grandchildren, Clayton, Ava and Zoe; along with his mother, Audrey McCord; three brothers, Max McCord, Roland (Elicia) McCord and Alvin (Cindy) McCord and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
