Two crashes that occurred within a half hour of each other last Friday, January 31, sent three people to the hospital, including a local man who was critically injured. State troopers reported that Colton S. Sims, 31, of Atmore suffered critical injuries when the 2013 Fiat he was driving (photo taken before it came to a stop) left Alabama 21 near the 9-mile marker around 11:40 a.m., then struck a culvert and overturned. Sims, who was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, was taken to USA Medical Center in Mobile, where he reportedly remained this week. Emergency units were sent to the Sims wreck from the intersection of North Trammell and Ridgeley streets, where a 2014 Chevy Silverado and a 2015 Honda CRV collided around 11:10 a.m. Two unidentified occupants of the Honda were taken by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not available by Tuesday’s press deadline.
