Kids of all ages can get a head start on Christmas fun this Saturday, December 7, when Atmore Main Street (AMS) and the City of Atmore combine to bring the community’s first “Snow Day” celebration.
Goody bags with crayons, coloring books and more will be given to the first 100 kids to arrive at the free event, which will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Boxcar Willie Park, 207 Ridgeley Street.
Youngsters will be able to frolic in artificial snow in an area behind the boxcar that gave the park its name.
“This is our first Snow Day, and we are hoping it’s our first annual Snow Day,” said AMS Executive Director Shinora Redmond. “[City Clerk] Becca Smith and I were planning events for next year, and we decided instead of doing a concert, we would make it a family event. We kept adding things, and United Bank paid for the snow, so it is definitely going to be a family-friendly event.”
Children can visit with Santa and mingle with Disney characters during the festivities. (To balance the goodness of Santa, the Grinch will also be on hand.)
The evening of pre-holiday merriment will also include live choral performances by the Huxford Elementary School and Coastal Alabama Community College choirs, as well as rides on a miniature train, inflatables, caricatures and face painting. A hot chocolate station will be set up in case North Pole weather follows Santa here.
“It’s going to be a fun evening,” Redmond said. “We hope everybody will come and join in.”
