Aurora Nell Crook

Mrs. Aurora Nell Crook, age 83, passed away, Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in Atmore, AL.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Chaplain Joshua McDowell officiating.
Burial will follow at McCullough Cemetery.

Joe Max Petty

Mr. Joe Max Petty, age 73, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024 at his residence in McDavid, Fla. A native of Canoe, Ala., he spent several years residing in Atmore, Alabama before settling in McDavid, Florida. Throughout his life, Mr. Petty was a dedicated member of the Atmore Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church, where he actively contributed to his community. His legacy will be remembered fondly by family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was a dedicated individual whose life was marked by service and commitment to his community. Graduating from Escambia County High School in 1969, he continued to further his education at Jefferson Davis Community College and S.D. Bishop State College, laying a solid foundation for a career devoted to helping others during their most difficult times. His involvement with Carney Masonic Lodge #549 and the Abba Shrine Temple of Mobile, Alabama, reflected a deep-seated belief in brotherhood and charity, with values that guided him throughout his life. Appointed as Coroner of Escambia County by Governor Guy Hunt in 1988, he undertook the significant responsibility of serving his community with compassion and integrity. Over the years, his professional journey took him through various esteemed funeral homes, including Fisher-Pou and Waters and Hibbert in Pensacola, Florida, and Flomaton Funeral Home in Flomaton, Alabama. In 1991, he co-founded Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, where he would build lasting connections with families, providing them solace during their times of grief. His unwavering commitment to compassionate service was evident during his tenure as General Manager at Jay Funeral Home, as well as through his role as co-founder of Eastside Chapel in 2000. In 2007, he became the sole owner of Petty Eastside Chapel, further solidifying his dedication to serving the community with care and respect. Through every role he embraced, he left an indelible mark on those he served, embodying the essence of empathy and care that is so crucial within the realm of funeral service. His legacy will live on through his son, William Oliver Petty, the proud owner of Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

Mr. Petty is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William Martin (Nellie Chandler) Petty; brother, Elgia Uriah Petty; sisters; Marion Stedman and Donna Belinda Filmore.

Mr. Petty is survived by his only son, William Oliver (Nychole) Petty of Atmore, Ala.; two daughters, Wendy (Matt) Shelton of Atmore and April (Manny) Karvelas of La Grange, Ga.; brother, James Basil (Gina) Petty of Warrior, Ala.; grandchildren, Kannon Karvelas, Kaden Lassiter, Karson Karvelas, and Maleah Wiggins; mother of his children, Joyce Petty of Atmore; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Reverend Dexter Truesdell, Reverend Nathan Brown, Reverend Don Davis, Sister Helen Stewart and President Harlan Spencer officiating. Entombment followed at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in McDavid, Fla.

The family received friends Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 6 until 9 p.m. and continued on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers were Matt Shelton, Manny Karvelas, Kannon Karvelas, Charles Thompson, John O’Barr, Clay Hadley, Will Carter and Jason Hadley.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Malone, Joffrey Tullis, Leo Amerson, Mike Williams, Reverend Bill Stuckey, Keith Stedman, Kaden Lassiter, Karson Karvelas, Jim Staff and John Mitchell.

Anthony “Tony” Ray James

Mr. Anthony “Tony” Ray James, age 66, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024 in Atmore. He was born in Mobile, Ala. to Eugene Ray and Janie Rowell James. He attended Pine Level Primitive Baptist Church. He was a previous manager at Atmore Truckers Association and Agriliance in Atmore. He was owner of James Custom Blend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Ray James.

Eugene Anderson

Mr. Eugene Anderson of Brewton, Ala. passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Baptist Hill Church.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 2024 from 3 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Michael A. Nolen

Mr. Michael Nolen, age 67, of Brooklyn, N.Y. passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024 at his home.

Edward (Preston) Adams

Mr. Edward (Preston) Adams, age 88, of Atmore, Ala. (Freemanville Community) passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at West Florida Hospital, Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Christian Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. James is survived by his wife, Vickie Melton James of Atmore; his daughter, Railyn (Jeremy) Rolin, his mother, Janie “Ann” James and his brother, Phillip (Denise) James, all of Nokomis, Ala.; and his two grandchildren Gabby and Greenlee Rolin.

Graveside services were held Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Elder Gene Freeland officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jeremy Rolin, Brandon James, Ray James, Ian James, Joey James, Todd Booker, Alan Ash and Robert Nichols.

Honorary pallbearers were Ral Smith, Andy Wilkins and Greg Hodgen.

Glenda Kaye Stewart Fondren

Glenda Kaye Stewart Fondren, age 53, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was born in Monroeville, Ala. to Charles and Montez McMillian. She worked at Wind Creek Casino for the past 15 years. She enjoyed cooking and gathering with friends and family. Her heart was deeply blessed by helping others.
She was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents, Jack and Annie Bell McMillian and Willis and Minnie Williams.

She is survived by her daughters, Annabell Stewart (Austin), Elizabeth Stewart (Trey); her grandchildren, Wesley and Grant; her mother; her sister, Linda Till (Brian; her brother, Jack McMillian (Ann); nieces and nephews, Trista Smith (Samantha), Greg Taylor, Jack McMillian (Charity), Megan Chaves (Ian), Harmoni Till (Logan), and Evan Till, (Tara) and great-nieces and nephews.
A home going service will be held at Little River Baptist Church Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Hunter Bosarge and Reverend Wayne McMillian officiating. Special music will be performed by Chad Williams.
