Special to Atmore News

On November 23, members of the Atmore (AL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, chartered on March 28, 1969, upheld their annual tradition of spreading holiday joy by surprising shoppers at three local Walmart locations with free groceries. This marked the third consecutive year of the initiative, with the “Kappas” dedicated to brightening lives and ensuring families had enough food to celebrate the holiday season.
The Atmore Chapter serves communities across Atmore, Brewton, Bay Minette, and neighboring areas. Shoppers were selected randomly, with no prior arrangements or specific criteria. Despite this spontaneity, many recipients were moved to share their personal stories, adding heartfelt meaning to the day’s events.
“Each year, this event becomes more impactful – not just for the recipients but for us as well,” said Chapter President Dr. Vinson J. Bradley. “We recognize the great needs in our communities and wholeheartedly embrace our role in addressing them, whether the gesture is big or small. We truly believe that actions speak louder than words.”
The Atmore (AL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi hosts a variety of events year-round to fund community outreach programs and scholarships for high school seniors. The chapter’s signature event, “The Kappa Ball,” is scheduled for March 22, 2025, at the Bay Minette Civic Center. Guests can look forward to an evening of fine dining, live music, dancing, and fellowship.
