APD investigating Brooks Lane shooting

Atmore Police Department detectives, already working to identify the individuals responsible for firing more than four dozen shots into several 4th Avenue homes on November 1, are now investigating two shootings.
The latest occurred on Saturday, November 9, on Brooks Lane, an area that had been spared gunplay since a rash of shootings — including a fatal one — took place there last year.
“We’re still investigating, following up leads,” APD Sgt. Darrell McMann said of the twin investigations.
The latest shooting was reported around 7:54 Saturday morning, when dispatchers relayed a report from “a female stating her brother had been shot on Brooks Lane.” Police and medics were sent to the scene.
They arrived to discover a “male victim with two gunshot wounds to the lower body,” and the victim — whose name has not been released — was taken by ambulance to an unspecified medical facility. His condition was not known by Tuesday’s press deadline.
McMann said shell casings found in the roadway lead police to believe the suspect or suspects fired from a moving vehicle. The caliber and type of weapon used has not been revealed.
Three 2023 shootings — one in July, one in August and one in October — were reported in the Brooks Lane area.
A house was shot into, with no injuries; a man suffered minor injuries in another shooting, and a local man — 22-year-old Jatyrain Aquamini “Tank” Tolbert — was shot to death after an argument with a 19-year-old Mobile man.
Police are certain more than one shooter was involved in the November 1 incident on 4th Avenue, where 49 shots were fired into several houses. City police found spent shells from 9mm, .45-caliber and .223-caliber weapons scattered along the city street.
APD officials encourage anyone with information on either the Brooks Lane or 4th Avenue shootings to contact 251-368-9141.
