The following felony arrests were reported by Atmore Police Department (APD) officers during the period September 20-29:
Cody Leverette

Leverette

A 26-year-old Flomaton man was jailed September 27 on a felony drug possession charge after he was pulled over for driving a vehicle with a shattered windshield.
APD reports show the traffic stop occurred around 3 p.m. on South Main Street
During the officer’s interaction with the driver, Cody Leverette, he noted that Leverette “was acting in a suspicious manner,” so he requested consent to search the Flomaton man’s clothing, from which he removed “several baggies of synthetic marijuana (Spice) totaling nearly six grams.”
When the officer pulled the Spice from Leverette’s clothing, Leverette took off running but was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
Officers then searched Leverette’s vehicle, inside of which they found “several items that are used to ingest narcotics.”
Leverette was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center (ECDC) on one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and non-felony attempting to elude a police officer. Jail records show he remained in the facility Monday afternoon, September 30.
Melvin Johnson
City police arrested a Mobile County man September 29 after his vehicle was blue-lighted because it was reportedly being driven inattentively.
According to police reports, the traffic stop was conducted around 11 p.m. on Alabama 21 after an officer observed the vehicle being “driven in a careless manner.” As he talked with the driver, later identified as 48-year-old Melvin Johnson of Creola, the officer grew suspicious.
The lawman reported that he “became suspicious of (Johnson’s) behavior and requested a K9 officer.” The canine was deployed, and he “alerted to the presence of narcotics on the vehicle.”
During a search of the vehicle police discovered a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, along with an unspecified quantity of Buprenorphine / Naloxone pills, which are used to treat addiction to opioids or other narcotics. Also found were “other items that are used to ingest narcotics.”
Johnson was jailed on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained on the jail’s inmate roster mid-afternoon Monday, September 30.
No mug shot of Johnson was available from the jail website by 3 p.m. Monday.
