Lions donate to Camille Place

The Atmore Lions Club meeting on August 6 at the Atmore Community Hospital was called to order by club president Lion Joyce Petty who also led the Pledge of Allegiance and said the prayer and blessing. Hannah Helton, Maggie Helton, Chris Ziebach, and Mike Von Keyserling were introduced as visitors.
Following lunch, Lion Renee Hardy and Lion Joyce Petty gave a report on the visit to Camp Seale Harris to provide an evening meal. 150 children, as well as the staff, were fed. Those attending were Candace Wooten, Chuck Brooks, Ken Sessions, Renee Hardy, Marie Blair, and Joyce Petty.
Lions Gregg Akins and Bub Gideons gave a report on the district cabinet meeting which they attended. Lion Gideons said the Atmore Club has been asked to host the next 34C district meeting on February 22, 2025. Lions Petty, Gideons, and Nancy Karrick reported on the Multiple District 34 Leadership Training Session which they attended in Montgomery.
Tickets are being sold by Atmore Lions for a raffle to help support Alabama Lions for the Alabama-Auburn game and a hotel room in Tuscaloosa. Tickets are $10 and any Lion can give information on how to purchase a chance for those tickets. Plans for Taste of the South on September 19 were noted, and the date for Williams Station was given.
Lion Taylor Lee introduced Hannah Helton, administrator of The Summit, who spoke about what the residents were allowed to do and the care they were given, as well as explaining what services were not available to residents.
Additionally, Chris Ziebach gave an update on Camille Place and said they would soon have a mental health facility for girls who have been trafficked as well as one for boys. The facility currently serves girls aged 6-19, where they receive schooling. She noted that one 16 year-old hadn’t been to school in years and was on a third-grade level. Chris was presented with a check from Atmore Lions to help with their projects and service to our area.
