State Reps. Alan Baker (District 66) and Matthew Hammett (District 92) pose with representatives of the 14 Escambia County volunteer fire departments that received a 2024 Alabama Forestry Grant in the amount of $1,995.79 during the July 11 meeting of Escambia County Volunteer Fire Association members. State Forester David Thomas and local forester Lucas Newbie officially presented the grant money, but Baker and Hammett handed out the checks. Baker said State Sen. Greg Albritton (District 22) played a key role in securing the award. The county has 24 volunteer fire departments and more than 285 volunteer firefighters.
