Dorothy W. Smith

Smith

Mrs. Dorothy W. Smith, age 88, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024. She was employed at Walmart many years as a greeter. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Smith; parents, Robert and Sybil Womack; brothers, Monroe and John Womack.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Kenneth (Candi) Smith of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Donna (David) Fitzpatrick of Goodway, Ala.; grandchildren, Ben (Amy) Smith, Kerri (Justin) Boykin, Jessie (Jozie) Everette, Niki Everette and Amanda (Jonathan) Miller; great-grandchildren, KyLeigh, Jayla, Mackenzie, Collins, Allie, Ansleigh, Claire, Chloe and Hawk.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 10 -11 a.m. at Enon Baptist Church.

Funeral Service will follow at 11a.m. with Rev. Steve Dunn officiating. Interment will be at Enon Baptist Cemetery.

Eveline A. Hollingshead

Mrs. Eveline A. Hollingshead, age 87, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of Century, Fla. and attended Bratt Assembly of God Church. She loved animals, going shopping, and fishing. She really liked to cook for family and friends, and sitting down watching a good western. In her pass-time she enjoyed gardening with flowers, and vegetables.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam (Lizzie Campbell) Andrews; husband, Gordon Junior Hollingshead; two sisters, Helen Williams and Evelyn Bass.

Mrs. Hollingshead is survived by her one son, Randal Hollingshead of Century, FL; two grandchildren, Anna Hollingshead, and Kayla Hollingshead.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow at McCurdy Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 29, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

Pallbearers will be Timbo Campbell, Bud Campbell, Rodney Burkett, Heath Burkett, Luke Brown and Jeffery Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Campbell, Wayne Faircloth and Zachary Weaver.

Alice Faye Heathcock 

Heathcock

Mrs. Alice Faye Heathcock, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024 at her home. She was born in Atmore to Fonnie and Eugene Baker Davison. Through her life of being a homemaker, she loved her animals, and her flowers that she shared with everyone. She also found joy in baking cakes for all of her family and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Lula Mattie Helton, Joseph Lavin Davison, Nola Leora Hattaway and Willie Jasper Baker; her husband, Thomas F. Heathcock; her sons, Tommy Darrell McCrory and Michael Woodrow McCrory; her step-son, Jeff Heathcock and her brother, Sam Davison.

Mrs. Heathcock is survived by her children, Teresa McCrory (Danny) Dabbs and Jeanne McCrory (Cecil) Corey; her step-son, John (Mary Anne) Heathcock; her grandchildren, Cody Nall, Caleb (Marrissa) Corey, Ashley Coker, Haleigh Staff, Noel McCrory, Daniel Dabbs, Ashley Quinn, Drake Strickland, Talania Smith, Bowyn Heathcock, Riverly Heathcock, Caitlyn Rozier and Meagan Lopez; seventeen great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Joan Davison along with many family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Cooper and Pastor Steve Breceda officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Don Findley, Daniel Dabbs, Danny Dabbs, Cecil Corey, John Heathcock and Gary Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Corey and Allen Wells.

Lucille King Swift    

Swift

Mrs. Lucille King Swift, age 94, of Atmore, Ala. died peacefully on the morning of Sunday, July 28, 2024, at The Summit, Atmore.  She was born in Monroe County, Ala. to George Lee Davis and Kitty Morris Davis. She graduated from J.U. Blackshear High School in Uriah, Ala. She was employed by First National Bank, Atmore for fifty-years.  Lucy was known and beloved in her community where she was involved in many civic organizations.  She was a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Atmore.

She was a true Southern lady, always elegant, dressed beautifully and moved with grace.  She had a delightful sense of humor and an infectious laugh.  She enjoyed planning, organizing and hosting her annual Red Hat Party.  Always embracing a love of life, she arrived at the church for a WMU meeting on the back of a motorcycle one week before her 87th birthday.

She loved cats, treating them like they were her children. Though she never had children, she was a second mother to her five younger siblings, her nieces and nephews and many of her friends’ children.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bush King and Robin Swift; her parents; her brothers, Chester and Levern Davis.

Mrs. Swift is survived by her brother, Alfred Davis (Cheryl); her sisters, Wanda Clark, Glenda Dixon and JoAnn Adams; her sister-in-law, Blanche Davis.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Kelly Brown and Dr. Kevin Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Harris Byrd Mapoles, Sr.

Rev. Harris Byrd Mapoles, Sr., age 89, of Milton, Fla. passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024. He was born in Crestview, Fla. to the late Clayton Webb Mapoles, Sr. and Hazel Byrd Mapoles. He was a 1953 graduate of Milton High School and attended Florida State University for three years marching in the “FSU Marching Chiefs Band” and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. As a 4th generation Floridian and public servant, he served as the Mayor of Milton for seven years and Santa Rosa County Commissioner for 12 years. From 1964 to 1984 built and owned WXBM-FM country radio station that he sold in 1984. He has attended First Baptist Church Milton for the past six years after his retirement from the UMC in October, 2018.

Rev. Mapoles was renowned as a pilot, often performing as “The Flying Mayor of Milton,” entertaining thousands of spectators at air shows as he raised financial funding for children’s homes and military aviation museums.

In 1995, Rev. Mapoles put aside his flying to serve the Lord. He and his family were active members of Elizabeth Chapel UMC in Chumuckla, Florida. At age 60, he began study to become a United Methodist minister and later was assigned to Bethel United Methodist Church in Atmore, where he served as a part-time local pastor for 10 years. He later served Mae Edwards Memorial UMC in Milton, Florida.

In the community, Byrd served as a member of the Santa Rosa Medical Center Pastoral Council as a hospital chaplain at Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton, and past president of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce. He was very active in the Blue Lake Walk to Emmaus and encouraged members of his congregation to go on the Walk, and he was a member of the Scratch Ankle Emmaus Reunion Group in North Santa Rosa County.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Piper Mapoles Godwin.

Rev. Mapoles is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Paula Lou Haskins of Milton; five children, a son, Harris (Chip) Byrd Mapoles, Jr. (Amy) and Stephen Schlichter (Rita), all of Pace, Fla., a daughter, Katrina Mapoles Parker (Brian) of Pace, a daughter, Stacey Schlichter Burt (Danny) of Mobile and a son, Shane Nicholas Mapoles of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nelda Mapoles Thompson of Englewood, Fla. and Carolyn Mapoles Rhodes (Ted) of Pace, coupled with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A “Celebration of Life” Service will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church Milton, 6797 Caroline Street, Milton, Florida 32570 with Dr. Jonathan Russell officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church from 10-11 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.

Donations may be made to First Baptist Church Milton Food Pantry, 6797 Caroline Street, Milton, Florida 32570; to your local Alzheimers Association; or to a charity of your choice.

Robert “Bo” Eldridge Bartley           

Mr. Robert “Bo” Eldridge Bartley, age 87, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was born in Walnut Hill, Fla. to Ernest and Ruby Bartley.  He attended Ernest Ward School and then joined the Army National Guard for eight years. He worked at NADEP on NAS Pensacola as a Soldering Training Specialist from 1957 to 1992. He was active in his church, serving in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher and Deacon for many years.  He also enjoyed working with stained glass. He loved helping people with a wide variety of needs, always serving others first.  He had a kind nature and servant’s heart.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Bartley and his father, Ernest Bartley.  

Mr. Bartley is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Nina Bartley; son, Scott (Brenda) Bartley of Pensacola, Fla. and sister, Faye Franklin of Atmore.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Sellers, Pastor Roy Chewning, Pastor Jesse Wood and Pastor Tim Hawsey officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
