A 56-year-old Atmore man was killed Tuesday, July 9, when he ran off the shoulder of Interstate 10 near Madison, Fla. and his truck overturned.
Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate that the unidentified man was traveling westbound, towing a boat, when he inexplicitly drove his truck off the roadway around 1:28 a.m., near mile marker 251.
According to FHP reports, after the truck ran onto the paved roadside, the driver re-entered the traffic lanes, causing the boat to jackknife. The truck then “traveled across the travel lanes and into the center median where (it) overturned before colliding with the guardrail.”
The pickup came to a final rest in the median. The driver (FHP does not include the names of accident victims on its reports) was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The interstate’s westbound lanes were closed for roughly an hour before being re-opened to travel.
