News Staff Report
Alabama Power Company (APCO) officials said last Friday, March 15, that an 18-wheeler with a “tall load” snagged a power line and brought down a pole, leading to Thursday evening’s loss — for slightly more than four hours — of electric service for “about 145” Atmore customers.
The mishap took place around 4:20 p.m., and APCO crews had to replace the pole and repair the line. They were finally able to restore power to all customers around 8:30 p.m.
APCO officials said the incident occurred near U.S. 31’s junction with Cindebran Drive.
According to emergency dispatch records, neither city police nor city firefighters were sent to the scene.
