Carole Bondurant Hamilton

Mrs. Carole Bondurant Hamilton, age 78, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024. 

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 at l p.m. at Jubilee Full Gospel Church, 4501 Highway 41, Brewton, Ala..

Thomas Calvin “TC” Jordan

Mr. Thomas Calvin “TC” Jordan, age 85, a native of Flomaton, Ala. and resident of Byrneville, Fla., passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024. He was born to Daniel E. and Eunice Hall Jordan and was of the Christian faith. He was a graduate of Flomaton High School. He had a passion for family history and genealogy and was a proud great-grandson of a Confederate Veteran. He also spent time working with the local historical society on various projects, including the “Old 100” Sawmill train. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He spent years working as a taxidermist, as well as became an accomplished scuba diver.

In 1991, working in research and development as an ink resins application chemist, TC began work to develop more environmentally friendly methods for the manufacture of ink and resins. His successful discoveries resulted in the issue of multiple patents.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veronyka “Vicky” Jordan and two grandchildren, T.J. Jordan and Leanne Jordan.

Mr. Jordan is survived by his sons, Thomas A. (Lori) Jordan and Dennis E. (“Doodle” Anniece), Jordan, all of Byrneville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Rachel Sellers Agerton Lancaster

Mrs. Rachel Sellers Agerton Lancaster, age 82, of East Brewton, Ala. passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County and had worked as a clerk and chief clerk for the Escambia County Courthouse for forty-two years and had served as Judge of Probate from 2000 to 2008. She was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School and Larkins Business College. She attended First Church of The Nazarene in East Brewton.

Mrs. Lancaster is survived by three sons, Doug (Stephanie) Agerton and Michael (Laurie) Agerton, all of Brewton and John (Cindy) Lancaster of Pollard, Ala.; daughter, Jamie (J.R.) Lambeth of Pollard; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The family did receive friends Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 6 8 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home.

Funeral services was held Friday, February 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Bro. Blake Mohling and Bro. Wayne Butts officiating. Interment followed in Union Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brice Agerton, James Agerton, Austin Agerton, Lawton Shipp, Mark Ward and Robert Ingram.

Rita Irene Young

Young

Mrs. Rita Irene Young, age 72, of Opelika, Ala., known to many as “Bigmomma” passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024. She was born to the late Lewis Rutland and Mary Hall. Her pastimes included treasured moments with her family, evenings playing bingo, the excitement of poker machines, watching her favorite soap operas and game shows and in earlier years participating in golf and bowling. She was also a fan of Auburn football. Rita’s life was one of service and love, demonstrated through her ownership and operation of a daycare, where she cared for children as if they were her own.

She will be remembered as a woman of warmth, generosity, and humor. Her loving presence and the happy memories she created will be held dear by all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to be a guiding light for her family and the many lives she touched.

Mrs. Young is survived by her husband, Ron Young; children, Keith Turner (Diana) and Kim Renfroe (Michael); grandchildren, Johnathan Turner, Elizabeth Atkinson (Braden), Natalie Exum, JonMichael Renfroe and Anna Turner; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Jane-Anne Exum, and Autumn Collins-Turner; a very special friend Doreen Macon; brothers, Gene Rutland (Jo) and Windell Rutland (Gayle).

A service to honor Rita’s life will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home & Crematory in Opelika, Ala.

Marshall Ronnie Lowery

Mr. Marshall Ronnie Lowery, age 80, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, February 2, 2024. He was born in Flomaton, Ala. to Henry and Annie Blackmon Lowery. He served two tours in Vietnam as part of the United States Army.  He later retired from Masland Carpets.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fannie Ross Lowery and his son, Kevin Lowery.

Mr. Lowery is survived by his daughter, Melissa Lowery of Walnut Hill, Fla.; his son, Montey (Jennifer) Lowery of Atmore; his grandchildren, Whitney, Dakota, Kristen, Morgan and Madison along with his great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Chloe.

Interment will follow at a later date.

Danny Lavon Griffis

Mr. Danny Lavon Griffis, age 69, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Atmore, Ala. and has resided most of his life in McDavid, Fla. He worked construction for many years as a brick mason. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed sitting back watching westerns, wrestling, hunting and fishing shows. He got real enjoyment out of spending time with his nephews and taking them hunting and fishing. He loved the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Daniel (Ruby Lee Johnson) Griffis; three brothers, Wayne Griffis, Gary Griffis and Dennis Griffis; one sister, Annette Lambeth; two nephews, David Griffis and Chad Hanks; one great-nephew, Dalton Hanks and brother in-law, Ken Hanks.

Mr. Griffis is survived by his one brother, Tony Griffis of McDavid; two sisters, Patsy Griffis of McDavid and Brenda Hanks, (Rocky Coffey) of Century, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Nioma Elizabeth Taylor Stewart

Mrs. Nioma Elizabeth Taylor Stewart, age 96, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 in Monroeville, Ala. She was born in Eliska, Ala. to J.T. and Agnes Taylor.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.B. Stewart; her two daughters, Lillian Conway and Betty Walker; her siblings, Junior Taylor and Sue Phillips, both of Atmore and Willie Grey Everette of Ocean Springs, Miss.; a beloved son-in-law, Eugene Rackard of Chipley, Fla. 

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her seven children, Bob and Darlynn Hommel of Dothan, Ala., Michael and Scott Penney-Hommel of Madison, Wisc., Martha Colbert of Excel, Ala., Dell Harrison of Flomaton, Ala., Karen Rackard of Chipley, Tina Brand of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. and Melanie (Chris) Rolin of Atmore; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Thurl Pearson and Bro. Matthew Everette officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Ernest Dean Rolin, Jonathon Rackard, Noah Lee and William “Bill” Walker, Nathaniel Fernandez and Tyler Fernandez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Crane, Scott Jackson, Denny Garvin, Benjamen Lee, Beau Hommel and Trucker Brand.

Funeral services for Ms. Lorene Moorer of Walnut Hill, Fla. are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Turner Funeral Chapel.

Willard Hill

Mr. Willard Hill, age 69, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, in Atmore, Ala.  He was born, in Atmore and resided in Canoe, Ala. for many years before moving to Poarch, Ala. the past 20 years. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed building hunting stands and shooting houses; enjoyed welding in his shop and doing tractor work. He liked traveling to the mountains and sitting back watching a good western on television.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Gray Hill; mother, Mary Lee Phillips Baker and one brother, Benton Hill.

Mr. Hill is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Cathy Hill of Poarch; two sons, Nick (Kim) Hill of Poarch and Ben (Lindzie) Hill of Millbrook, Ala.; four sisters, Betty Ann Ganey of Bay Minette, Ala., Sarah (Julian) Johnson of Atmore, Jeanette (Ronnis) Pate of Jackson, Miss. and Willonette (John) Hammond, of Uriah, Ala.; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.  

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Ray Ward and Bro. Patrick Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.
