Another shooting on Brooks Lane

Atmore police detectives continued this week their investigation into an October 24 shooting incident on Brooks Lane, the third shooting in that area in the past four months.
APD Sgt. Darrell McMann reported that one person was injured in the shooting, which occurred just before sundown.
McMann said police were dispatched to Atmore Community Hospital around 5:45 p.m. when medical staff reported that a gunshot victim was being treated in the hospital’s emergency room.
After speaking with the victim, who was treated and released, police went to the 100 block of Brooks Lane and quickly confirmed that the area was a crime scene. The department’s on-call investigator responded and collected the evidence at the site, McMann said.
This week’s shooting comes on the heels of an August 24 incident during which a Brooks Lane residence was hit by gunfire and one person inside was injured. There were no witnesses to the shooting, and no arrest has yet been made.
The worst of the Brooks Lane incidents occurred July 25, when a Mobile man, 19-year-old Antonio LeMarcus Pettaway II, was arrested for shooting Jatyrain Aquamini “Tank” Tolbert, 22, of Atmore after the two reportedly argued over a defective Glock switch Pettaway sold to the Atmore man.
Tolbert later died of his injury.
According to Escambia County Detention Center records, Pettaway remained in the county jail Tuesday, October 31, under a $500,000 bond. He is charged with murder.
McMann said last week that APD investigators have “developed a person of interest.”
