Jonathan Derek Perry

Mr. Jonathan Derek Perry, age 48, of Mobile, Ala. passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022.  He was born in Pensacola, Fla. to John McGhee and Carol Perry.  He found enjoyment as a professional residential painter.  He also loved to draw in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lecie Jo McGhee and his brother, William Craig Barnhill, Jr.

Mr. Perry is survived by his mother, Carol Perry Barnhill of Mobile and his father, Johnnie McGhee of Canoe, Ala.; his sisters, Amy C. Spate and Jennifer H. Barnhill; his brothers, Zachary McGhee and Jake McGhee; his aunts, Jennifer Perry, Betty Peacock, Angela DeVilbiss along with many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at New Home Cemetery in Poarch, Ala. with Pastor Glenn Barnhill officiating.  Interment will follow at New Home Cemetery.

Gloria Sharpless Sims

Mrs. Gloria Sharpless Sims, age 80, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, August 29, 2022 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Ala. She was born in Pensacola, Fla. to Rex James and Vesta Melton Sharpless. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. During her years of employment she served as secretary of Escambia Academy from 1971-1980; 32+ year career as a Medical Records Technician with Dr. JB Thomas and later worked with Dr. Delaine Salter and Dr. James Dixon and Dr. Thomas Boshell in Brewton, Ala.  She had amazing culinary skills that included baking hundreds of cakes for her son Mark’s restaurant. She was always delighted to share of her family’s activities and accomplishments.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Lynwood Jackie Sims and her sister, Carolyn Sharpless Lambert.

Mrs. Sims is survived by her son, Mark D. (Lori) Sims of Water Island, US Virgin Islands; her daughter, Daphne Sims (Jeff) Cook of Daphne, Ala.; her brother, Lamar (Sandra) Sharpless of Orange Beach, Ala. and her grandchildren, Katie Sims and Megan Sims of Brighton, Mich., Nathan Cook and Alex Cook of Birmingham, Ala. and Broxton Cook of Daphne.

Her Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Atmore with Dr. Steve Shirley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Atmore. 

In Lieu of flowers she has requested to make donations to a TeamMinistries.org either online, on their facebook page or mail to 1809 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209-3505. This is tax deductible ministry that provides practical needs for families whose children are in cancer treatment and it was a huge blessing to our family friends.

Ronnie Lamar Champion 

Mr. Ronnie Lamar Champion, age 75, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at his home. He was born in Graceville, Fla., then resided in Pace, Fla. for a while before moving to Atmore for the past fourteen years. He served in the United States Army for many years and was awarded several medals for his honor including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. He was a Baptist Minister serving many local churches in Escambia, Ala., Escambia, Fla. and Santa Rosa, Fla. for many years. He was an avid fisherman.  He spent many hours studying and researching the bible and loved spreading the gospel and bringing people to Jesus. If you know Ronnie you knew he loved the Lord and wanted everyone else to know him also.

He was preceded in death by his father, Barney Ben Champion and one granddaughter, Laura Cost.

Mr. Champion is survived by his mother, Eunice Collins Champion of Milton, Fla.; his loving wife of fifty-two years, Carolyn Champion of Atmore; one son, Derek (Tammy) Champion, of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Deidre Champion (Jimmy) Peck of Pace, Fla.; two brothers, Dennis (Patricia) Champion of Kennesaw, Ga. and Stanley Champion of Milton, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Hunter (Alyssa) Hughes, Brittany Godwin, Madilynn Peck and Ryan Peck, all of Pace, Courtney McGrath of Sacramento, Whitney (Cory) Batterson and Hayden Champion, all of Robertsdale, Ala.; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Pine Level Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Kennedy officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Level Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 10:15 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Pine Level Baptist Church.

Edith McBride Barnes

Mrs. Edith McBride Barnes, age 94, of McDavid, Fla. passed away Friday, September 2, 2022.
She was born to Noah and Betty McBride in Chumuckla, Fla. She was a beautician by trade, which she practiced for 40 years. She was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church in Flomaton, Ala., and treasured her church family. She loved to fish and the joy filled weeks spent at their Boatyard Landing fishing camp.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Grady Barnes Sr.; one son, James R. Barnes of Bluff Springs, Fla.; one brother, W.A. McBride; and one sister Mrs. Neil McBride Austin, both of Pensacola.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by one son, Grady Barnes Jr. and Pat Hendrix, of Tensaw Ala.; a daughter, Donna C Rydzowski and husband Steve of McDavid, Fla. and one brother, Ray McBride and wife Miriam of Century, Fla.; seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jamie Barnes, Grady L. Barnes, Steve W. Rydzowski, David B. Barnes, Jeremy Barnes, Josh G. Barnes, and great-grandson Steven W. Rydzowski, II.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Patterson ad Jonathan Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Chumuckla, Fla.

Sarah Millie Coker Purvis

Mrs. Sarah Millie Coker Purvis, age 96, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Escambia County, Ala. to W.E. and Jessie Maude Keller Coker.  She was a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Atmore. She enjoyed bowling, quilting and yardwork. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and Alabama Crimson Tide Football fan… ROLL  T I D E  ROLL!

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis E. Purvis; her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Alday and her siblings, George Coker, Billy Coker, Elbert Coker, Bobbie Stallworth, Peggy Moye and Evelyn Thurman.

Mrs. Purvis is survived by her brother, Jimmy (Suzie) Coker of Atmore, her sister, Faye (Mike) Morris of Molino, Fla.; her grandchildren, Amanda (B.J.) Finch and Natalie (Kenny) Horton and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 9, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Betty Coleman Amerson

Mrs. Betty Coleman Amerson, age 82, of Enon, Fla. passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 in Mobile, AL. She was born in Enon to the late Jackson C. and Margaret Elouise Jackson Coleman. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Fountain and Holman Prison in Atmore as well as at the Atmore Nursing Home before she retired. She was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed nature, animals and was very active with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents her loving husband of sixty-four years, Curtis Franklin Amerson; her sister, Bertha C. Taylor; two brothers, Marion C. Coleman and Ernest J. Coleman.

Mrs. Amerson is survived by her children, Curtis Alan Amerson of Jay, Fla., Alex David (Felicia) Amerson of Enon, Lisa J. (Tracy) Fisher and Leah A. (Brian) Williams of Mobile, Ala.; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family; friends and a close family friend and caregiver, Jamie Woods.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Bro. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Fla.

Mary Virginia Pace

Mrs. Mary Virginia Pace, age 79, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, in Century, Fla. She was born in Apalachicola, Fla. and resided most her life in Century. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting, crabbing, and fishing. She had a good wit about her to always tell you like it was.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie (Alva Lewis) Lashley; husband, August Pace; two sons, Joseph Lavimoniere, Michael Lavimoniere; one grandson, Joshua Lavimoniere; two brothers, Lonnie Lashley, and Richard Lashley.
Mrs. Pace is survived by her two sons, Richard Lavimoniere of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Lewis T. Pace of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Alva Enfinger of Century; one brother, Ronnie Lashley of Apalachicola, Fla.; one sister, Lyndal Odom of Apalachicola; three grandchildren, Ashlyn Robinson, Miranda Enfinger, Chandler Enfinger, five great-grandchildren, Conner, Cain, Cason, Coen, Adelynn, other relatives, and friends.

Latosha White

Ms. Latosha White, age 45, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her girls, Jalyzia, Jaiva, La’Taiva and Ka’Nyaja; her mother and father, Mazie “Lean” and W. T.; brother, Keith and special cousin, Patricia “Lil Bit.”

Ms. White is survived by two sons, De”Tarius “Skooter and Qwaterius “Tez”; fiancé “Ed”; sister, Vicki; five brothers, Andrea, Demetrius, Maurice, Carlos (Katrina) and Reginald; sister-in-law, Josette; nieces, Janya “Nya”, Destinee, Yolanda, Alexis, Olivia, Porsha (Marvin), Chelsea, Kiera and Aireunna; nephews, MJ, Joketrick, Tomarkus, Brandon, Devontae, Antjuan, Montre and Jacobi; two uncles, Vander (Ann), John E. (Rosie); special baby, Alaysia “Lay-Lay”; special cousins, James “Man”, Alvin “Moochie” (Mechelle, Reggie (Ellen), Gregory “Peewee”, Timothy, Albert, Markita “Weed”, Valentina and Patrice; best friend and cousin, Marquita “Quay”; extended family, “The Tolbert’s, Bell, Ruby, Regina, Eloise, Jody, Bo, Eva, Rosie “Lil Sister” and Doris “Gent”; host of other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home with Evangelist Vicki Tucker, eulogy/Officiant. Interment followed in Stallworth Cemetery.

Clausell “Bud” Hines 

Mr. Clausell “Bud” Hines, age 88, native of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, August 26, 2022 at his home. He was a member Of The House of God Church, Freemanville, Ala. and was active until his health prevented him attending. Her served in the US Army for two years and worked in the shipyard in Mississippi and Masland Carpet Plant. Later he became an entrepreneur of Club LaSable.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Daniel; father, Wynell Watts and brother, Odell Booker.

Mr. Hines is survived by his wife, JoeAnn Hines of Atmore; one son, Clausell Henderson; two sisters, Dorothy Hines; Cynthia Clack; two brothers, George (Erma) Moore of Atmore and Charles Daniels of Freemanville.; five granddaughters, Shawntel Kemp, Deontra Henderson, Khadija Barron, Laterricka Banks and Zaya Henderson; bonus children, Danielle Henderson, Lyndell Henderson, Vivian (Davie) Williams, Jennie Rudolph, Thelma Grant, Lillie Taylor, Deborah Rudolph-Cook and Shequila Radcliff.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at House of God Church with Rev. James Salter, Pastor, and Presiding Eulogist. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were his family and friends.
