A July 1 traffic stop by Atmore Police Department drug agents led to felony and misdemeanor drug charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine, against a 53-year-old Atmore man.
Sgt. Darrell McMann reported that the traffic stop and arrest occurred around 2:55 p.m. on Jack Springs Road. APD Drug Task Force investigators attempted to obtain consent to search the vehicle but were denied, so a K-9 officer from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene.
The K9 alerted on the vehicle, so the occupants were removed from the vehicle and a search was conducted.
Drug cops discovered 59 grams of meth, 1 gram of marijuana, one Oxycodone pill, and unspecified drug paraphernalia.
Johnathon McGhee was processed into the county jail on one count each of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McGhee was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center, where he remained late Friday, July 8, under a $1 million bond.
