An Atmore man remained in the county jail as midweek approached, charged with shooting his brother during a Thursday, February 10, argument at a local apartment complex.
According to a press release issued by Police Chief Chuck Brooks, 21-year-old Aquarius Dejan Taylor is charged with one count of first-degree assault in connection with the shooting. He was being held in the Escambia County Detention Center, without bond, late Monday.
Police reports show that officers were sent to Atmore Garden Apartments on East Laurel Street just before 9:30 p.m. Investigating officers were told that Taylor had shot his brother, Ladarus Quamane Smith, 24, of Brewton, once with a handgun.
Smith was taken by private vehicle to Atmore Community Hospital, from which he was later flown by Medstar Air Transport to a Mobile hospital with an injury that was not believed to be life threatening.
Brooks said officers learned during their preliminary investigation that “an argument between two brothers over an undisclosed amount of money ended when Taylor shot his brother.”
