Atmore Police Department officers were dispatched to the Fast Lane Convenience Store on Jack Springs Road in the Freemanville community at approximately 5:39 p.m. Monday, January 10, after receiving calls that shots had been fired at the location.
Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said when officers arrived, they found that a male and female victims’ vehicle had been struck by a single bullet, and a total of five shell casings were found in the store parking lot.
Brooks added the victims, nor bystanders or employees of the store were injured.
According to police reports, the actions that led to gunfire started when two separate male and female parties got into a verbal altercation.
Brooks said the male and female offenders were coming out of the store when they got into an exchange of words with another male and female occupying the victims’ vehicle.
Following the verbal altercation, a third party, who appeared to be a passenger inside the offenders’ vehicle, opened fire on the victims’ vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Brooks said three suspects are being investigated in connection with the shooting. After a full investigation is conducted, warrants will be issued.
