Frances Drew Smith

Mrs. Frances Drew Smith, age 90, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. She was born in Monroe County, Ala., to the late Issac and Maggie Marshall Ardis. She dedicated sixty one years of her life to nursing. She was a member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles Drew; her second husband, Walter Smith; her infant daughter; her brother, Carl Ardis and her sister, Nora Ardis Hadley. 

Mrs. Smith is survived by her sister, Carol Ardis Jordan of Frisco City, Ala.; her sisters-in-law, Georgia Brooks of Atmore, Ann (Wayne) Sanders  of Cartersville, Ga., Frances Ray Ardis of Franklin, Ala. and Norma James of Monroeville, Ala.; her lifelong friend, Thelma Bouler and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Tew officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore. 

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Jordan, Allen Jordan, O’Neal Jordan, Donald Johnson, Ike Hadley and Joey Mura. 

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 10 a.m. until service time ll a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home. 

For the safety of you and others, please practice social distancing requirements, though wearing a facial mask is strongly encouraged.

Ralph “Doug” Turner

Mr. Ralph “Doug” Turner, age 76, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Latham, Ala., former resident of Eliska, Ala. (most of his adult life) and had resided in Atmore, Ala. for the past six years.
He is survived by his nieces, Bobbie (Cecil) Caraway, Diane Tollison Brown, all of Monroeville, Ala., Peggy (Gregory) Shaylor of Milton, Fla., Christie (Michael) Arrington of Castleberry, Ala., Nicole Hill (Stevie Adcox) of Goodway, Ala., Jan Woods of Excel, Ala. and Susie Woods of Semirah Springs, Ala.; nephews, Eugene (Debbie) Woods, Harold Tollison, all of Monroeville,  Joe Tollison of Hale County, Ala., and George Tollison of Mineola, Ala. and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne McMillian officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 25, 2021 from to 6 until 8 p.m. at Petty Eastside Funeral Home.

Roy Gene Guy

Guy

Mr. Roy Eugene “Gene” Guy, beloved husband, devoted father and long-time resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 after a lengthy illness. The fourth of twelve children, Gene was born in Mobile, Ala. In 1957, the family moved to Atmore, Ala. where he excelled at basketball, football, baseball and any other sport he tried. He also met the love of his life, Dolly, whom he married on May 24, 1970 after they graduated from Auburn University. Although his degree was in ornamental horticulture, Gene became a computer programmer at GM&O Railroad and retired from Mobile Infirmary after 20 years of service. He loved to pick on those he loved most and there was no better sound than when he got tickled. He built his own greenhouse, basketball goal and his neighborhood Memorial Garden. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball and helped start the Spanish Fort Youth Basketball League. Gene enjoyed bedtime stories, Krispy Kremes and singing songs he learned from listening to the Grand Ole Opry. A life-long fan of all things Auburn, he was thrilled to see the “Prayer at Jordan-Hare” in person. He loved Dolly with his whole heart and was proud of the strength, courage and compassion she demonstrated throughout his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Marie Guy and his brother, Thomas Murray Guy.

Mr. Guy is survived by his wife, Dolly Daniels; his children, Amber Suzanne (Joe Wiseman) and Daniel Eugene (Esther); ten siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at www.theaftd.org.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home (26209 Pollard Rd Daphne, AL) with Elders Larry and Shelia Steiner officiating.

The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. with the service following at 6 p.m.

Kathlyn Presley Wall

Mrs. Kathlyn Presley Wall, age 73, of McCullough, Ala., passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021.

She was born in Escambia County, Ala. to the late Lee and Hester Stein Presley. She was a member of Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She was a member of Friendly Holiness Church in Poarch, Ala. She was employed for many years with PCI Public Safety. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jimmy Lee Presley; her sisters, Willie Lois Rolin and Sadie Pearl Holder. 

Mrs. Wall is survived by her husband, James Wall, Sr.; her sons, James Barry (Megan Day) Wall, Jr. and Jason Lee (Courtney) Wall, all of McCullough, Ala.; her daughter, Wendy Presley of McCullough; her sisters, Rosa Lee Chisom of Houston, Texas and Janice Andrews of Excel, Ala.; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at McCullough Cemetery in McCullough with  Bro. Ray Ward officiating.

Marquitta Hall

Marquitta Hall, age 34, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 2, 2021 from 3 until 5 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Carl Jenkins

Carl Jenkins, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at West Florida Hospital, Pensacola, Fla.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Cemetery.

Donnie Jones, Sr.

Mr. Donnie Jones, Sr., age 64, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, March 15, 2021. He was born in Monroeville, Ala., to Willie and Rosie Jones. He was a 1976 graduate of Escambia County High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eddie Ree Jones and sister, Rose Mary Jones.

Mr. Jones if survived by his sons, Donnie (Gwinda) Jones, Jr. and Brad Jones, all of Atmore; step-children, Lashanda (Marcus) Lewis and Yolanda Yvette Walker (Kelvin White), all of Ozark, Ala., Michael 9Shannon) Walker of Birmingham, Ala. and Lynn (Chemeka) Walker of Atmore; brothers, Erby Jones, John Lee (Eartha) Jones, Willie Frank Jones, Albert Jones, Kenny Ray Jones and Joe (Cathy) Jones, all of Atmore; sisters, Ollie Mae Jones of Atmore, Allie Mae (Chris) Williams of Frisco City, Ala., Claretha Jones and Ella Jones, both of Mobile, Ala. and Marteshia Jones of Atmore; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews. Relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Jones St. Pentecostal Holiness

Church with Prophet Shawn Williams, Pastor and Eulogy, Bishop Williams. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carnell Dixon, Randy Stotts, Herman Archie, Doug McMillian, Ervin Williams and James Jones.

Flower attendants were family and friends.

Deloise Peoples

Ms. Deloise Peoples, age 62, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, March 22, 2021. She was born to Odester Ree Peoples and Arthur Peoples, Sr. She was a quiet person, kind and loving person.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Earlene Johnson.

Ms. Peoples is survived by six sisters, Betty J. Grant, Rita M. (Charles) Lee, Angela (Thomas) Knight, all of Atmore, Mary Montgomery of Oceanside, Calif., Lorene Dickerson of McDonald, Ga. and Bertha P. (Donald) Alexander of Rosharon, Texas; three brothers, Arthur Peoples, Jr. of Lorton, Va., Jessie L. (Kenyarta) Peoples of Missouri City, Texas and Albert L. Peoples of Atmore; great friend, Ray Lambert and a ;host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Irma J. Wilson officiating Eulogist, Holy Community Center.

Pallbearers and floral attendants were family and friends.

Darryl Dewayne Jones

Mr. Darryl Dewayne Jones, age 35, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021. He was born in Brewton to Elaine Jones and Darrell Pryor. He was a 2004 graduate of T. R. Miller High School. He accepted Christ in early life. He loved cooking and worked as a steelworker for Hwashin America Corp. in Greenville, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry J. Jones.

Mr. Jones is survived by his children, Jailyn ones, Cenyah Jones, both of Birmingham, Ala., Octavius Jones, Da’Moni Jones, both of Montgomery, Ala. and Da’mikko Jones, of Pascagoula, Ms.;  mother, Elaine Jones Brooks of Brewton; father, Darrell Pryor of Montgomery; grandmothers, Clara Barton (William Carter) and Hattie (Lynn) ;McConnico; sisters, Laquetta Jones, Minnie Jones, both of Brewton and Chelsea Sigler (Karlie) of Brooklyn, N.Y,; brother, Thomas Pryor of Mobile, Ala.; devoted and loving companion, Laquandria Harris of Montgomery, Ala; aunts, Felicia Barton of ?Brewton and Towana (Bill) Johnson of Prattville, Ala.; uncles, Wiley (Annette) Barton of Flomaton, Ala., Perry (Debra) Barton, Terry Barton, both of Brewton and Ronnie (Rosalind) Jones of Ft. Worth, T3exas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. and Baptist Hill Cemetery with Minister Regina Watson officiating.

 Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Chris Stallworth, Robert Haynes, Kirk Brown, Earl Salter, Rayvon Howard, Demetris Pryor, Dionte Holcomb, Wiley Barton, Perry Barton, Terry Barton and Ronnie Jones.
