An Escambia County man remained in the county jail at midweek, charged with shooting another county resident to death more than a week ago, on the porch of the suspect’s home.
Sheriff Heath Jackson reported in a May 17 press release that Rufus Evans III, 55, of a William Cook Road address near Brewton, is charged with one count of simple murder in the death of Tyler Lisenby.
Sheriff’s reports show that deputies were sent May 9 to the Evans residence in response to a telephone report of “an unknown disturbance” at the site.
ECSO units arrived to discover Lisenby’s lifeless body on the front porch of the Evans residence, according to sheriff’s reports. Preliminary observations were that the victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
Jackson said sheriff’s office investigators were able to gather enough evidence at the scene to charge Evans with the crime, and he was processed into the Escambia County Detention Center.
An employee of the jail’s booking and release division reported early Tuesday that Evans remained in the facility, under a $300,000 bond.
Jackson said the homicide investigation is ongoing.
