Edna “Skippy” Miller

Mrs. Edna “Skippy” Miller, age 73, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at her home in McDavid, Fla. She was a native and life-long resident of McDavid. She was a loving mother and Nanny (Nananut).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mattie Johnson; husband, Charles Miller; daughter, Marsha Cook; step-son, Gerald Miller; grandson, Christopher Miller; brother, Charles “Choppy” Johnson; two sisters, Carol Griffis and Margie Waters and best friend, Joyce.

Mrs. Miller is survived by one son, Jeff (Brenda) Johnson of Century, Fla., the mother of his children, Patricia Johnson of Tenn.; one daughter, Tinia (Marc) Hennington of McDavid; step-son, Calvin Miller of De Funiak Springs, Fla.; step-daughter, Loretta “Lilbit” Ditmer of De Funiak Springs; two sisters, Grace Stokes of Jay, Fla. and Margaret Bliley of Pace, Fla.; fourteen grandchildren, Josh, Carla, Bo, Rachel, Jacob, River, Destiny, Brooke, Hunter, Bob, Tesha, Brandy, Scotty and Heather; eleven great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Breanna, Jake, Jianna, JC, Blake, Braiden, Lauren, Waylen, Emmy and Krista.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. William Chancery officiating. Burial followed at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday, March 27, 2020 from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Josh Johnson, Jacob Pardue, Scotty Griffis, BoBo Johnson, Hunter Cook and River Cook.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Johnson, Mark Brown and Dennis Griffis.

Bennie C. Presley, Sr. 

Presley

Mr. Bennie C. Presley, Sr., age 80, of McCullough, Ala., passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Poarch, Ala. to the late Hosea and Rena Heathcock Presley. He was a construction worker most of his life and was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He served in the United States Army Reserve and was a member of McCullough Christian Center. He loved hunting, fishing but most of all coon hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Charles Presley; two brothers, John Presley, Howard Presley; two sisters, Eunice Rolin and Atricbea Gibson.

Mr. Presley is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Carolyn Till Presley of McCullough; one son, Bennie C. “Chuck” (Tammy) Presley, Jr. of Flomaton, Ala.; four , Chasity (Robert) McGillivray of Spring, Texas, Melissa (Jimbo) Ashcraft of Mineola, Ala.,; Regina (Huey) Swilley of Atmore and Ronda Woods of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Shirlene (Larry) Mauldin Pearl Nall, all of Pensacola, Fla. and Beatrice Presley of Poarch, Ala.; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

The family received friends Saturday, March 28, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the McCullough Christian Center.

Due to the current health crisis the family of Mr. Bennie C. Presley, Sr. wishes were to have a private graveside service at Poarch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Blake Presley, Destin Sims, Will McGillivray, Jackson Bonner, Nathan Williams, Nick King, Blaze Bryant and Brandon Blanton.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike Woods, Ivan Ramer, Jimmy Woods and Raymond Woods

Kenneth Richard Maddox

Mr. Kenneth Richard Maddox, age 42, of Canoe, Ala., passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 in Canoe. He was born in Elgin, Ill. to Jerry and Kathryn Willett Maddox. He worked for Winn Dixie in Atmore, Ala. for fifteen years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Maddox.

Mr. Maddox is survived by his mother, Kathryn Maddox of Canoe; one brother; David Maddox of Canoe and his sister; Karen (Kenneth) Condrey of Flomaton, Ala.; two nieces, Ashley Austin and Morgan Condrey.

A memorial service will be held Monday, March 30, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alvin Brown officiating.

Calvin Coolidge Turberville

Mr. Calvin Coolidge Turberville, age 96, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 in Bay Minette, Ala.  He was a native of Mineola, Ala. and a life-long resident of Atmore, Ala. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police, veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army, was retired from the Alabama Prison System as a Canteen Manager II. He was a member of the Atmore Temple Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Ruth; son, Roger; grandson, John; three sisters, his twin, Cleo Gwaltney, Alva Lee Duncan and Dannie Dean Roshetko and three brothers, Martin “Tab” Turberville, Floyd Turberville and Archie Turberville.

Mr. Turberville is survived by his children, Wayne (Rhonda) Turberville of Troy, Ala. and Paula (Steve) Magee of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 30, 2020 at 2 p.m.at Mineola Cemetery with Bro. Doug Odom officiating.

Sylvia Paulette Hadley

Mrs. Sylvia Paulette Hadley, age 72, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 in Atmore, Ala.  She was a native of Brewton, Ala., former resident of Bay Minette, Ala. (where she spent most of her life) and had resided in Atmore for the past eight years. She retired from Standard Furniture with thirteen years of service. She loved gospel singings, going to church and her grandchildren. She was a member of the Hall’s Fork Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-five years; Robert Earl Hadley, Sr.; son, Robert Earl Hadley, Jr.; parents, Willis and Lucille Hadley; sister, Deborah Crossley and grandson, Sandy Mitchell Hadley, II.
Mrs. Hadley is survived by three sons, Sandy Mitchell (Donna) Hadley of Seminole, Ala., Edward (Kendall) Hadley of Bay Minette and Evan (Hali) Hadley of Perdido, Ala.; two daughters, Lynda (Bryan) Couch of Atmore and Lynn Hadley of Bay Minette; one brother, Willis Robert Whatley, Jr. of Atmore; two sisters, Marilyn Diane Lambeth of Perdido and Delores Jackson of Brewton, Ala.; ten grandchildren, Jonathon Davis, Galvin Hadley, Sean Rolin, Cody Rolin, Megan Hadley, Alison Wasdin, Alex Wasdin, Aaron Wasdin, Chloe Hadley and Conner Hadley; one great grandchild, Willow Davis and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Hadley officiating. Burial will follow at Lottie New Home Cemetery.

Ted Presley   

Presley

Mr. Ted Presley, age 82, of Perdido, Ala., passed away Friday, March 20, 2020, at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Mobile, Ala.  He served twelve years in the U.S. Navy.  He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Atmore; member of Gear Jammers Car Club of Baldwin County; life member of VFW Post 7016, Atmore; Past Commander of American Legion Post 90, Atmore,; Past Master of Masonic Lodge 752, Perdido; member of American Legion Riders Post 71, Hot Springs, S.D. and a member of the Patriot Guard – riding so no veteran goes home alone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Travis Morgan Presley; mother, Jessie Mae (Joyner) Presley; two sisters, Juanita Messer and Faye Stewart; and his brother Larry Presley.

Mr. Presley is survived by his spouse of sixty years, Jo Ann Lyerla Presley; son, Travis Morgan (Jessica) Presley, II of Perdido; daughter, Sheila Ann (Dwayne, Jr.) Hinson of Gulf Shores, Ala.; and the light of his life, his three grandsons and three granddaughters.

Memorial service and interment will be held at the AL State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 State Hwy. 225, Spanish Fort, Ala. at a later date.

Because Ted had such a love for veterans, he would be honored to have any memorials sent to the American Legion Post 90, 101 W. Church St, Atmore, AL or American Legion Post 71, 1045 Jennings Ave., Hot Springs, SD 57747.

Verdell Montgomery Malone, age 60, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2020, 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.

Dorothy Ellen “DOT” Nettles

Ms. Dorothy Ellen “DOT” Nettles, age 61, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Friday, March 20, 2020 at her residence. A native of Atmore, she was a 1976 graduate of Escambia County High School

and a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. She worked in food service with the Huddle House and Walmart in Bay Minette, Ala. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, watching movies, and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her father, Deacon Thomas Nettles; her mother, Annie Pearl Nettles; her sister, Resa Ann Braxton, and a brother, Thomas Green, Jr.

Ms. Nettles is survived by  her son, Derek Thomas Nettles of Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Elizabeth (Lee Roy) Mobley of Atmore; one brother, John (Cynthia) Nettles of Mobile, Ala.; a special niece (like a sister), Barbara (Kenneth) Toney of Montgomery, Ala.; one aunt, Johnnie Mae Rudolph of Atmore; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Private funeral services were held Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel with Rev. Alfonso Hires officiating. Interment followed in Stallworth Cemetery.

Lena Mae McCall

Ms. Lena Mae McCall, age 68, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at

Atmore Nursing Care Center. A native of Atmore, she was a graduate of Escambia County Training School.

Ms. McCall is survived by two daughters, Equilla McCall of Ellsworth, Maine and Victoria Alexandra McCall of Atmore; two sons, Leon McCall of Alabama and Levon (Melissa) McCall of Hartwell, Ga.; one sister, Betty Jean Longmire of Atmore; three brothers, Arbo (Mary) Bradley of Atmore, James Bradley of Calif. and Gene (Shirley) Bradley of Carbon Hill, Ala.; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

John David Norris  

Mr. John David Norris, age 77, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 in Bay Minette, Ala. He was a native and life-long resident of the Monroe County, Ala. area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He as a logger until his health forced him into retirement He was a member of McCullough Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Irene and Dennis Gentry and sister, Gloria Bossier.
Mr. Norris is survived by his cousin and best friend, Iris Clarice Dunn of Uriah, Ala.; one brother, James and Peggy Gentry and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Phillips Cemetery with Bro. Richard Daniels officiating.
