Smith announces candidacy

Note: The following announcement was submitted by the candidate and is not edited.
I am officially announcing my intentions to become the next Mayor of our great City. I believe I will be able to Atmore forward in ways that are expected and absolutely possible. It’s time to do more than the minimum required or expected of our elected officials, Community, School System, and the people. It’s time to come together as a City that goes beyond expectations to forge ahead through visions of deepened desires and dreams. NO REALITY IS JUST PRECEPTION! When Rural America prospers …. All America prospers. It begins with the “grassroots” municipality.
MY VISION for Atmore in the next four years is a simple three part movement of working together as a City.
(1) Forward in Education:
Give our students the future they deserve and need to prepare them for a future. We have made strides, however it takes more. As tax payers we send around 6.3 million dollars to Brewton for our Atmore Schools. You have a vested interest in our schools! We should never accept ANY SCHOOL to be on the State failing list! PERIOD! Our students are our greatest resource! It is our responsibility to make sure our school system is set up for success!
(2) Forward in Industry: We need
programs, curriculum, that produce workforce ready students, conductive to future endeavors and provide well-educated students prepared for jobs or higher education.
(3) Forward in Community:
– WE MUST BE OPEN TO CHANGE!
Provide hope in a better life where there is little or none. Seek grants to improve living, working, and day to day living.
– WE MUST PROVIDE TRUST!
Say what we mean, mean what we say. Be open!
We can not do everything at once. It takes time, but given the chance, great improvements WILL COME.
– BE ACCOUNTABLE!
We need to clean up and fix up. Enforce City Codes. Help businesses with store fronts, clean our sidewalks, repairs to needed walkways, landscapes, residential, etc. Develop a plan to work toward cleaning up our overall appearance. Atmore look great … we can look greater!
Enforce laws and City Codes.
– KEEP THE CITIZENS INFORMED!
Publish City Council Agenda, Budgets, Town Hall meeting in media.
I will work closely with our City Council to keep them informed on all matters that pertain to the City’s business.
I will work with citizens by conducting quarterly Town Hall Meetings / Workshops to address concerns and inform them of current happenings throughout the City.
WE MUST BRING ATMORE UP TO THE 21ST. CENTURY. Just because we are living in the Age of Technology, Automation, Broadband, etc., DOES NOT mean we are meeting the needs, standards, or expectations of ALL our citizens.
It is crucial for us to properly fund and support our schools at every level of government. We have too much at stake, whether it’s our children’s future, City’s future, or just doing the right thing for students and teachers. This affects our ability to recruit or keep industries in our area, improve our local quality of life, and move us forward at the same rate of surrounding Cities.
Investing in local schools is an investment in YOU … plain and simply.
As your Mayor I will make this promise … to be open, fair, available, network with other successful Cities to gain insight in making us the best small City in Alabama. We have so much to be proud of. The work is just beginning. WE ARE ATMORE! Let’s work together to bring Atmore to a flourishing, forward City! I will take advantage of every opportunity given to us to help the people I will serve. I have attended all workshops offered Elected Officials within State, Local, and City Government provided to help build a better Community and to prepare me to lead in a successful government!
I am married to Clint Smith. I’ve lived in Atmore 35 years. Together we have 3 grown children and two grandsons.

I am a member of First United Methodist Church, and member of several local organizations where I have served in many capacities.
I am currently serving my second term as City Councilwoman, District 4. I have been a voting Delegate to the Alabama League of Municipalities, currently serve on the ALM Transportation Committee, member of the Alabama Bi-Centennial Committee, Delta Regional Authority Leadership Institute, EDAA Leadership Workforce Development, Member of Atmore Chamber of Commerce, and many, many more local organizations. IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME THAT ATMORE’S CITIZENS KNOW THAT THEIR INTEREST AND CONCERNS ARE A TOP PRIORITY TO ME.
TOGETHER WE CAN … TOGETHER WE WILL!
