Dolly Marie Deese  

Mrs. Dolly Marie Deese, age 92, Foley, Ala., passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, January 4, 2020. She was born in Samson, Ala. February 20, 1927 and was first a resident of Fairhope, Ala. and later a resident of Foley where she lived for more than 60 years. She was employed for many years by Fovil Manufacturing in Foley serving as a supervisor. She enjoyed her work in a leadership role and made many lifelong friends along the way. While her health permitted, she enjoyed going to church regularly. She was a woman of great faith and her devotion to that faith supported her throughout her life and ultimately gave her peace in her final days. Marie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Homer Deese and her parents, John B. and Dester Dismukes; eight siblings.

Mrs. Deese is survived by her sons, Kenneth Deese of Summerdale, Ala. and Stanley Deese of Foley; grandchildren, Kendra Hayes (Shannon), Maggie Quimby (Toby), Angel Hayes, Danna  King (Pat), Missy Ward (Michael), Kris Deese (Ashleigh), Jennifer Graben (Joey), Stephanie Deese, and Trenton Deese; twenty great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Friday, January 10, 2020 from 10-11 a.m. at Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley, Ala.

Funeral services followed visitation at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Graveside service followed immediately at Pine Rest Cemetery.

Alford G. “AL” Madaris  

Mr. Alford G. “AL” Madaris, age 67, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019 in Walnut Hill. He was born in Troy, Ala. to the late Samuel Alfred Fletcher and Willie Mancil Madaris. He retired from the United States Air Force and served during the Gulf War.

Mr. Madaris is survived by his wife, Deneen Madaris; one son, Nathaniel Collin Madaris; one daughter, Jessica Koren Madaris and step-daughter, Krista (Bill) Sample.

A memorial service was held Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. from Trinity Episcopal Church in Atmore, Ala.

Fred Anderson, Jr. 

Mr. Fred Anderson, Jr., age 69, a Marine Veteran, of Bay Minette, Ala. passed recently.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 at noon at New Hope Baptist church, Bay Minette (Crossroad Community) with Rev. Jimmie Bennett, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Alabama State Veterans Cemetery, Spanish Fort, Ala.

Charles Edward Boatwright  

Boatwright

Mr. Charles Edward Boatwright, age 69, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at his home in Atmore, Ala.  He was a native of Century, Fla., a former resident of Byrneville, Fla. and had resided in Atmore for the past six years. He was veteran of the Desert Storm conflict serving in the U.S. Army and the Alabama National Guard with thirty-four years of service. He was a member of the Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Glannie Pearl Boatwright and brother, Jerry Wayne Boatwright.

Mr. Boatwright is survived by his wife of ten years, Orbineze W. Boatwright of Atmore; one son, Charles “Chuck” Boatwright of Lexington, Ky.; one step-son, Paul (Melody) Lee of Bratt, Fla.; two brothers, Billy Glenn (Diane) Boatwright of Byrneville and Henry Douglas Boatwright of Pensacola, Fla.; five sisters, Glorie Jean (Ray) Lawson and Sue (Junior) Walston, all of Century, Fla., Judy (David) Tillery of Atmore, Margie Quick of East Brewton, Ala., and Kathy (Donald) Walston of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren, Paul, Matthew, Mark, Tori, Alexes and Anna; two great-grandchildren, Cannon and Keith and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Buddy Williams officiating. Burial followed at Judson Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Flora Pearl Powers

Mrs. Flora Pearl Powers, age 89, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, December 30, 2019. She was born in Wetumpka, Ala. She and her husband owned Powers Grocery Store for many years. She moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for many years and returned to Atmore in 2015 where she was a member with Saints with a Vision until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawee L. Cunningham and Macie Shepard Kendrick; three brothers and one sister, Arelius Kendrick, Arluster, Kendrick, Argusta Kendrick and Betty Jean Kendrick Murphy; husband, David Lee Powers; son, Keith Powers; six brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Powers is survived by two brothers, Willie D. Cunningham (Lorine) of Junction City, Kansas, Bennie Kendrick (Sarah) of Montgomery, Ala.; sister, Mary Alice Selma of Montgomery; one daughter-in-law, Shasta Powers of Atmore; caregiver, Rita Williams and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Saints With A Vision A.F.M. C.O.G. WITH Pastor Onesimus Henry Jr./Host Pastor and Elder Audrey McAroy officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

Flower bearers were her family and friends.

Elizabeth Williams

Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, age 73, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019. She was born in Camden, Ala., to the late Rosie Mae Mims and Julius Powe. She attended the Escambia County Training School. She was a faithful member of Lighthouse apostolic Holiness Church. She was known for her signature dish, Potato Salad, but was fluent in all her cooking. She was one of the greatest culinary artists employed from the Ponderosa to David’s Catfish and retired after thirty-plus years of dedicated service.

She was preceded in death by her mother; sons, Booker T. Williams and Ricky Williams; brother, Minister Meltono Powe, Sr.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her four children, Barbara (Willie) Fountain of Walnut Hill, Fla., Elder Ray (Kim Williams, Ronnie (Shavaughn) Williams and Christy (Calvin) Brown, all of Atmore; fourteen grandchildren, Demetrius fountain, Yolanda Fountain, Demetrius Hamilton, Rayvon Mitchell, Andrea Williams, Raynoris Williams, Jr., Derrell Williams, Katara Williams-Weaver, Chasity Williams, Jeremy Arnold, Jasmine Lowery, Kassey Redmond, Adrian Primm and Demyreon Brown; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Reverend Julia Powe and Minister Jacqulin Lewis, both of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Pastor Nathaniel (Sheree) Powe and George Powe, both of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Pastor Mildred Powe of Birmingham and one uncle, Douglas Powe of Birmingham; devoted cousins, Annie Ferrell and Gwendolyn Ferrell along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church with Apostle Floyd E. nelson, General Overseer, Apostle Robert Grissett, Pastor and Elder Ray Williams, Eulogist. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Demetrius Fountain, Jeremy Arnold, Demyreon Brown, Raynoris Williams, Jr., Derrell Williams and Jacorey Ferrell.

Floral attendants were her granddaughters.

Labarron Dewayne Mitchell

Labarron Dewayne Mitchell, age 43, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, December 28, 2019. He was born to Charles Ray Crook Sr. and Linda Faye Crook (Jimmy) Marshall. He was a 1996 graduate of Escambia County High School. He was a faithful member of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church humbly serving where ever he was needed. He was a gentle and kind man who loved his family and drag racing.

He was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Glenda Ann Franklin and Brenda Ann Poindexter; sister, Cynthia Crook; maternal grandparents, James Carl Mitchell, Sr., Mary Alice Mitchell and step-grandmother, Ida P. Mitchell; paternal grandparents, Albert and Ersalee Crook; seven aunts; twelve uncles and nephew.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his mother, Linda Faye Crook Marshall; father, Charles Ray Crook, Sr., step-father, Jimmy Marshall; sisters, Tenika (Donzell Lyons) Crook, Laporchia Crook and Graneshia Savage, all of Atmore, Tracie (Kenny) Newton and Annalese (Derrick) Hodges of Brewton, Ala. and a brother, Charles Ray (Ashley) Crook of Huntsville, Ala. along with aunts, uncles and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives; special friends, Donzell Lyons, Willie Knight, Tomorrion Knight-Barnes, Jerome McCants, John McDowell and Terry Brown, Jr.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Catadro North, Pastor and Eulogist. Rev. Cleitis Walker, Gaines Chapel, Pulpit Conductor. Interment follower at Fairview Cemetery.

Cynthia Annette Quinley

Ms. Cynthia Annette Quinley, age 56, of Flomaton, Ala., passed away Friday, December 27, 2019 at her home. She was born to Claborne and Sophronia Quinley in Flomaton, Ala. She attended Flomaton High School. She had been employed with Vanity Fair and several fast food restaurants in the area. She was a devoted member of Fanny Missionary Baptist Church serving as Gospel Choir President, the Missionary Board and Superintendent of Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her father; two sisters, Janette Johnson, Dorothy Quinley and three brothers, Claborne Quinley, Jr., Bobby Quinley and James Quinley.

Ms. Quinley is survived by her mother; three sisters, Jeanette Quinley of Los Angeles, Calif., Jacqueline Williams (Bobby Jones) of Pensacola, Fla. and Patricia Quinley of Flomaton; special niece, Akiya Matthews and special nephews, Ja’Darius American and Lil Bobby Jones Williams; special fiend, Elizabeth (Liz) Jackson; host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Fanny Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Hiriam Stanton officiating. Interment followed at Fanny/Damascus Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keith Johnson, Tafari Osby, Clemente Brook Jr., Renaldo Brooks, Kelvin James, Bobby Jones Sr., Antonio Brooks, Walter Williams.

Linda Joyce Brown-Coker

Mrs. Linda Joyce Brown-Coker, age 57, of Atmore, Ala., passed away suddenly Thursday, December 26, 2019. She was born to the late Luck and Willie Bell Brown. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Holiness Church until her demise. She was a 1983 Escambia County High School graduate. She was employed with Wind Creek Casino for approximately fifteen years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shelia Brown Marquez and husband, Terry Coker.

Mrs. Brown-Coker is survived by three sons, Thomas (Danielle) Brown of Lithonia, Ga., Justin (Natosha Grissett) and Terry (Latisha Dailey) Brown, both of Atmore; step-children, Adrianna Lane, Anthony, Elijah “Bo”, Terrius “Pooh”; one sister, Dorothy (Sammie) Ollison of Atmore; one God-child, Bianca America; three brothers, Larry Brown, Darren Gainey, both of Atmore and Samuel (Jeanette Bailey) Perry Brown of Rochester, N.Y.; father-in-law, Clarence Coker; two grandchildren, Keondre Grissett and Ja’Shanae Brown; three step-grandchildren; one grand-dog; devoted nieces, Taeneisha Ollison, Cynthia McCovery and Stephanie Brown; special friends, Crystal Hernandez, Mary Hall, Lisa Hall, Sharonda Nichols, Tranessa McNeil and Harold “Boo Boo” Dailey and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dorothy E. “Sister” Newton

Ms. Dorothy E. “Sister” Newton, age 76, of Century, Fla., passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was born to the late W.T. and Phyllis C. Odom Newton in Flomaton, Ala. In 1963 she relocated to New York and was employed with a publishing company. Returning to Century, Fla. in 1976 she was employed with Stone Container many years.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Sgt. Kenneth P. Newson (U.S.Army), Cecil Newton, Jimmy Newton and Willard “Junior” Newton.

Ms. Newton is survived by her daughter, Toni (Leonard) white of Century, Fla.; two grandchildren, LaDarion White of Century and Tylia White of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother, Roy (Bessie) Newton of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Newton of Century, Fla. and Angie Newton of Lumberton, N.C.; one God-daughter, Charmele Newton of Bay Minette, Ala.; one niece, Beverly Newton of Tacoma, Wash.; one nephew, Kenneth (Tracy) Newton Of Brewton, Ala., one special friend, Barbara Dixon of Flomaton and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Vincent Dortch, Th. D., Eulogist and Pastor Clayton Williams, Officiating, Minister. Interment followed at Pleasant Jordan Cemetery.

Deborah T. Moorer

Ms. Deborah T. Moorer, age 49, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away January 3, 2020 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Pensacola to David and Dorothy Lee Moorer. She was a 1989 graduate of J.M. Tate High School. She was a member of AOH Church of Cantonment but visited numerous churches in the area. She was a corrections officer at Century Prison until her health failed. Even during her illness, she operated a home daycare for several years. She loved awesome preaching, listening to gospel songs and could spot a yard sale a mile away.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eula Jenkins and Joseph Bonner, Samuel and Armetta Moorer; three aunts, Annie Kyles, Patricia Moorer and Claretha Russell; one uncle, James Jenkins; niece, Kayla Nichole Moorer and her best friend, Michelle Parker.

Ms. Moorer is survived by her fiancé, Daryl Reed; daughter, Tarqualisha Smith (Daryl Rodgers); son, Taquarius Bryant; step-daughter, Cortney Boutwell; step-son, Tyler Reed; six grandchildren, Maluni Smith, Maliyah Rodgers, Malayna Rodgers, Jeremy Boutwell, Tyler reed Jr., Karley Reed; parents; siblings, Curtis Moorer, Michael Moorer, Sandra (Gregory) Samuels, Carlos Moorer, Kevin Moorer, Angelia Moorer and Valerie Moorer; grandmother, Sarah Moorer; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; great nieces and nephew; three special friends, Vickie Brown, Tawana Moorer and Samantha Allen along with a host of cousins, family and friends.

Ms. Edna Jones of Brewton, Ala., passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. from Christian Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery.

Robert Keith White

Mr. Robert Keith White, age 60, of Canoe, Ala., passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Clifford and Martha White. He was a manager at Bondurant Ace Hardware in Atmore and worked for Bondurant Lumber & Hardware for over twenty-seven years. He enjoyed Woodworking, Cabinetry. He was a Christian and a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church in Flomaton, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. White is survived by his wife, Alice Bowers White of Canoe; two sons, David (Heather) White of Canoe and Mark (Alicia) White of Flomaton, Ala.; one brother, Randy (Rosemary) White of Eufaula, Ala.; five grandchildren Anna Claire, Aliva, Isaac, Hope and Faith.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. from Little Escambia Baptist Church with Bro. Jonathan Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Little Escambia Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 6 until 8 p.m. from Little Escambia Baptist Church.

Stanley Keith Pope, Sr.

Mr. Stanley Keith Pope, Sr., age 66, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at his home in McCullough, Ala. He was a native of Pensacola, Fla., former resident of Canoe, Ala. and had resided in McCullough, AL for the past twenty-one years. He was owner of S&S Farm Services and former mechanic at Roger’s Tractor Company of Atmore, Ala. (he was one of the finest mechanics known in Atmore). He was known as a good man, who smiled all the time. He loved God, his family and was a member of the Healing Waters Church, where he served as an Elder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arngie and Ruby Lee Hinson Pope and his sister, Betsy June Pope Tyree.

Mr. Pope is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Eugenia Hanks Pope of McCullough; two sons, Stanley Keith (Kandy) Pope, Jr. of Nokomis, Fla. and Matthew Mason Dodge of McCullough; one daughter, Stephanie Grey (Terrell, Sr.) Still of McCullough; three brothers, Arngie (Alieen) Pope, Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., Jerry (Susan) Pope and Rusty (Sondra) Pope, all of Tenn.; one sister, Julie (Mike) Winchell of Tenn.; five grandchildren, Olivia Hope Dodge, Luke Edward Still, Shyla Pope, Aaliyah Pope and Samantha Pope and numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Phillip Daryl Williams

Mr. Phillip Daryl Williams, age 65, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at his home in Nokomis, Ala. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Nokomis for most of his life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a veteran with the US Marine Corp and the Alabama Army National Guard with over thirty years of service. He was an outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, scuba diver, loved to swim with his grandkids and was a member of the Nokomis Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Geraldine Williams.
Mr. Williams is survived by wife of thirty-eight years, Kay Charmaine Williams of Nokomis; three sons, Sean (Venetia) Corbitt of Phillipsville, Ala., Christopher (Jessica) Corbitt of Rabun, Ala. and Heath (Ashlee) Williams of Nokomis; one daughter, Charmaine (David) Paul of Nokomis; one brother, Frank H. (Jimmie) Williams of Atmore; two sisters, Sandra (Donald) Lambert of Nokomis, Fla. and Debbie (Ricky) Fore of Nokomis; eight grandchildren, Dylan Brunson, Justin Brunson, Braylon Corbitt, Brant Williams, Madison Williams, Mason Williams, Elin Paul and Everleigh Paul.
