Ms. Vivian Louise Patten, age 83, of Port St. Joe, Fla., formerly of Atmore, Ala. passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf in Port St. Joe.

James Earl Waters
Mr. James Earl Waters, age 68, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Ruskin, Fla. and has resided in Flomaton, Ala. for most of his life. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the United States Marine Corp. He was an avid coon hunter and was a member of the Northwest Florida Coon Hunters Association.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Sims; mother, Margie Waters; father, Jimmy Waters; mother-in-law, Mazie Jewel Hanks; four brothers-in-law, Det Hanks, Ken Hanks, Wayne Griffis and Arnold Averett; two sisters-in-law, Mary Griffis and Jeanne Baggett and a nephew, Chad Hanks.
Mr. Waters is survived by his wife of 4forty-eight years, Tiny Waters of Flomaton; one son, Jamie (Dean) Waters of Flomaton; one daughter, Ashley Lee of Flomaton; two special grandsons, Ryder Lee and Brayden Lee, both of Flomaton; three brothers, Donnie Waters and Bruce (Sherry) Waters, all of Flomaton and Kevin (Lori) Waters of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Gloria (Jimmy) Weatherford of Atmore, Ala. and Janie (Terry) Knowles of Century, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dak Sims, Haley Sims, Emily Waters, Payton Waters and one great-grandchild, Adelina “Little Texas” Sims.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Carnley and Bro. Joe Macks officiating. Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 6 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jamie Waters, Shane Waters, Bryan Waters, Dak Sims, David Jernigan, Sammie Portwood and Travis Moye.

Susan Fillingim Purvis
Mrs. Susan Fillingim Purvis, age 70, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018, after a short illness and a forty-one year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born in Atmore, Ala. She grew up in the Bay Springs, Fla. community where her family owned and operated Morris’ General Store. She and her husband own and operate Sugarfoot Farms in Northwest Florida. She attended Ernest Ward High School and Pensacola Junior College.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. “Tommie” and Gail Morris Fillingim.
Mrs. Purvis is a survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Gary R. Purvis; a son, Gary Wayne Purvis (Monica) of Blountstown, Fla. and a daughter Sharon Delmar (Mark) of Atmore; three grandsons, Nick Delmar of Pensacola, Fla., Brandon Purvis and Colton Purvis, both of Blountstown; mother-in-law, Bernice Purvis of Bratt, Fla.; brother-in-law Mike Purvis (Cathy) of Blountstown; nephew, Brad Purvis (Nicole) and niece, Ashley Purvis, all of Blountstown and many special family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Atmore with Rev. Brennan Peacock. Officiating. Interment will follow at Enon Baptist Church in Enon, Fla.
Pallbearers will be Nick Delmar, Rodney Fillingim, Wayne Fillingim, Brad Purvis, Brandon Purvis, and Colton Purvis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Albritton, Billy Bryan, Wendell Hall, Wendell Rigby, Merrill Traylor, Billy Ray Williams.

Francis Earline Odom
Ms. Francis Earline Odom, age 79, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and was a lifelong resident of the Little Rock Community. She was an employee of Vanity Fair in Atmore for many years. She will be remembered for her commitment to raise money for the less fortunate in the community. She was the driving force behind the Grand Ole Dames Garden Club’s “Atmore Area’s Tour of Homes” during the Christmas Season for several years.
Ms. Odom is survived by one son, James C. “Jamie” Odom; one granddaughter, Sehoy Spence, and three great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tanna and Tate Spence, all of the Greater Atmore Area.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 2 pm. at Little Rock Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ (Little Rock AL Community). A Celebration of her life, along
with fellowship, will be held at the Little Rock Church from 12-1:45 p.m. preceding the funeral service.

Sylvia Smith Hart
Ms. Sylvia Smith Hart, age 77, of Daphne, Ala., passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018. She was a native of Canoe, Ala. She attended Canoe Public Elementary School, whose building continues as a site for education in the community as part of the private Escambia Academy. She also attended Escambia County High School in Atmore. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in journalism and English from Samford University in Birmingham in 1962.
She was employed for more than 36 years by the Press-Register in Mobile, where she worked variously as a reporter, copy editor and page designer. During her years as a reporter, she received a number of certificates and plaques of appreciation from local, regional and state organizations for news coverage in the fields of health, religion and education. Among those were the Press Club of Mobile, 1980; Alabama Eye and Tissue Bank, 1991; Medical Association of the State of Alabama, 1971, 1986 and 1990; Alabama Public Health Association, 1992; Alabama State Nurses’ Association, 1987; Mobile County Nurses’ Society, 1986; Mobile Mental Health Center, 1970; Mobile County Chapter of American Red Cross, 1985 and 1986; Alabama Baptist State Convention, 1974; Conference of Downtown Churches of Mobile, 1983; Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Mobile, 1983; Right to Read Effort of the Catholic Diocese of Mobile, circa 1970s; Mobile Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa educators association, 1977; Alabama Interdenominational Seminary, Mobile, 1982.
She was preceded in death by her parents, King and Olvena Smith;
Ms. Hart is survived by her two brothers, J. Michael (Janice) Smith of Canoe and D. Max (Marie Horn) Smith of Hurtsboro, Ala; nephews, Ben (Becca) Smith of Canoe and Brian (Rita) Smith of Birmingham, Ala.; niece, Anita Marie (Paul) Hitchcock of Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Honorary pallbearers were her great-nieces and great-nephews, Sam and Will Smith of Canoe, Bailey Smith of Birmingham and Mary Miles, Kate and Jack Hitchcock of Gulf Breeze, Fla.
A graveside service was held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, 124 Sardis Church Road, Atmore, Ala. in the community of Wawbeek, Ala.

Mrs. Mildred Louise Croley, age 89, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Century, Fla. She was a native and life-long resident of Century. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Raymond Floyd Croley; one son, Ricky Croley; one daughter, Dorothy Sims and her parents, Bart and Carrie Hobbs.

La`Rhondica Ron`Janea Riley, age 23, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018. She was born to Ronald Lawerence Riley and Telissa Ann Watson. She was a 2014 graduate of Hillcrest High School where she participated in band, choir, track and HHS Beta Club. After graduating she attended Alabama A & M University where she was scheduled to graduate in December 2018 with a major in Criminal Justice. She was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Evergreen serving in the choir and praise team at Antioch Baptist Church in Tunnel Springs, Ala. She was a beginning entrepreneur as she started her own line of “Flawless Minks.”

Ms. Tracie Shenaye Young, age 24, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, May 14, 1993 In Pensacola, Fla. in Pensacola, Fla. She was a 2012 graduate of Escambia County High School. She was a member of Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center. She was employed with the Baldwin County Sheriff Department.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, James and Bennie Young and grandparents, Annie Delois and Gregory Hester.
Ms. Young is survived by her fiancé, Randy Lee Johnson, Sr.; three children, Sheniyah Mone’t Johnson, Randy Lee Johnson, Jr. and Saveion Malik Johnson; mother, Latisha Young; ; father, Dewayne Robinson; siblings, Stacie Young, La’Qiandria Young, LaKendra Young, Kirstan Young, Brya Robinson, Justice Robinson, Jeleesa Davis, Jaylyn Hyde and MyKeria Smith; grandparents, Linda Young, James Frye, James and Bonita McCants; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relative and friends.

Kenneth Ray Quimby
Mr. Kenneth Ray Quimby, age 64, of Foley, Ala., passed away Monday, May 28, 2018. He was born in Atmore, Ala. but grew up in Goodway, Ala. He later moved to Atmore and has resided in Foley for the past eight years. He was a 1972 graduate of J.U. Blacksher High School in Uriah, Ala. where he was an outstanding athlete in football and basketball. He was also an excellent musician on both drums and guitar.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Kenneth Ryan Quimby; his parents, Owen and Montez Quimby; his grandparents, Palmer and Ola Quimby and Ira and Pairolee Oswald.
Mr. Quimby is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Sheila Turk Quimby of Foley, Ala.; two children, Heather (Ian) Campbell of London, England; Matthew (Anna) Quimby of Birmingham, Ala. and a brother, Johnny M. (Marie) Quimby of Perdido, Ala.; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Scott Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
