Betty Lou Carnley Hanks
Mrs. Betty Lou Carnley Hanks, age 75, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 in Century, Fla. She was a native and life-long resident of Jay, Fla. She was a member of the Ebenezer Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Cozette Hanks and daughter, Angie Hanks Nelson.
Mrs. Hanks is survived by her son, Matt (Samantha) Hanks of Flomaton, Ala.; four brothers, Clarence (Minnie) Carnley of Pace, Fla., Leon (Barbara) Carnley and Melvin (Audrey) Carnley all of Jay and Curtis (Dianne) Carnley of Flomaton, Ala.; three grandchildren, Paul Thomas Black, Candace Black and Courtney Black and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Church with the Rev. Bobby Carnley and Rev. Danny Carnley officiating. Burial followed at Ebenezer Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 6 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer Church.
Pallbearers were Matt Hanks, Marcus Carnley, Travis Carnley, Michael Carnley, Paul Thomas Black and Wayne Roney.

Mrs. Jean Solomon, age 79, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 in Davisville, Fla. She was a native of Walnut Hill, Fla. and has resided in Davisville most of her life. She attended the Eastside Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dovie B. Phillips and Lillie Williams Phillips; three brothers, Davie L. Phillips, Willard C. Phillips and Clarence W. Phillips; two sisters, Emma Lee Reynolds and Merlene Sowell.
Mrs. Solomon is survived by her husband, Merrill “Tommy” Solomon of Davisville; one son, Byron Solomon of Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Lisa Larsen and Angela Ellison (Richard) Cuadras, all of Pensacola, Dawn Ellison Beers of McDavid, Fla.; one brother, Lindy B. Phillips of Davisville; one sister, Ethel (Wendell) Wilcox of Daphne, Ala.; four grandchildren, Caleb Beers, Brittany Lauren Beers, Lacey Jay Berg and Nicolas Cuadras and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Broadhead and Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Dry Springs Cemetery.

Benjamin A. Robinson
Mr. Benjamin A. Robinson, age 69, of Birmingham, Ala., passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was born in Mobile, Ala. and lived in the Birmingham area over thirty years. He was employed in sales for many years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Wesley Robinson and Eva Maye Davis Robinson.
Mr. Robinson is survived by a son, Daniel Robinson; two daughters, Ashley Robinson and Diedra Robinson and his sister, Joan Holcombe (Duane).
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. Interment followed in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Ala. at 1:15 p.m. with U.S. Army Military Honors.
The family received friends Wednesday, March 22, 2017 one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service.

Andrew Jackson “Jack” Beck
Mr. Andrew Jackson “Jack” Beck, age 78, of Davisville, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Davisville to the late Andrew Franklin and Mable Marie Dove Beck. He was a retired First Sergeant with the Army National Guard (Company A 711 Signal Battalion).
He was a barber for many years and started at the OK Barber Shop and then later worked part-time at Elite Barber Shop. He was a Past Master of Carney Lodge and a Mason for 50 years. He was a member of Atmore First United Methodist Church where he was an active member of the choir until his health failed.
Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Sue Amos Beck of Century, Fla.; one sister: Opal Beck Rider of Wild Fork, Ala.; nephew and niece, Rusty Rider and Suzzane Mathis.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 3 p.m. at First United Method Church of Atmore with Dr. Debra Bishop officiating. Interment followed in Pine Barren Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Mr. Joel “Joey” Allen, age 54, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Perdido, Ala. He was a native of Pensacola, Fla. and has resided in Perdido for most of his life. He attended the Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa “Lisa” Allen.
Mr. Allen is survived by his parents, Reuben and Betty Allen of Perdido, Ala.; two step-sons, Jonathan Owens of Atmore, Ala. and Joshua Owens of Rabun, Ala.; one brother, Tommy Earl Allen of Hahnville, La. and two sisters, Wanda Carol Cersey of Perdido and Tammy Cheryl Claywell of W.V.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Joyce Bryars Etheridge, age 77, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Atmore, Ala.
She was a native of Perdido, Ala. and has resided in Atmore since 1973. She attended Splinter Hill Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Ernestine Bryars; first husband, Frank Stewart Jr.; brother, Terry Bryars and son-in-law, James Snure.
Mrs. Etheridge is survived by her husband, Billy C. Etheridge of Atmore; one son, Donnie (Sandra) Stewart of Atmore; two daughters, Fonda Snure of Milton, Fla. and Rochel (Keith) Martin of Atmore; two brothers, Larry (Carolyn) Bryars and Larson (Margaret) Bryars, all of Perdido; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Louise Curry Hawthorne
Missionary Louise Curry Hawthorne, age 78, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at her home in Nashville, Ark. She was a native of Escambia County, Ala. and had resided in Arkansas since 1969. While living in Escambia County, she was a member of Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Nokomis. She became a member and first lady of True Deliverance House of Prayer after she moved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Rosie Curry; Sisters Irene, Ethel Mae, Mary, Josephine, Rosie Frances, Catherine and Lisa; brothers Woodrow and Eddie, and two children, Geneva and Lisa.
Mrs. Hawthorne is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bishop Andrew Ephraim Hawthorne and five children, Virginia Glover, Barbara Boyles, Andrew Hawthorne, Priscilla Chatman and Cynthia Hawthorne, all of Nashville, Ark.; sisters Elizabeth (Jimmy) and Savanna Curry, and brothers Willie (Mary), Sam (Betty), Aaron (Vanessa) and Melvin Curry, all of Atmore, Ala.; sister-in-law Dr. Mary Joyner of New York, N.Y.; brother-in-law R.B. Hawthorne of Los Angeles, Calif. And Willie (Carolyn) Hawthorne of Atmore, Ala.; grandchildren Shawn (Tashika) Glover, Lashonda, Quashana, Davencio, Latroy, Latoya, Quandra, Andrew III, Miles, Isiah, Shrone, Samuel, Quavinnie, Torrico, Torneshia and Quashera; 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Home Going Celebration was held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor F.D. Banks officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hawthorne’s nephews served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Hawthorne Jr., Willie Curry, Samuel Curry, Aaron Curry, Melvin Curry, Shawn Glover, Shrone Hawthorne, Torrico Hawthorne, Samuel Fellows and Andrew Hawthorne III.

Mr. Floyd Perry Jr. of Evergreen passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Mr. Roosevelt Lewis of Evergreen passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Willie Lee Curry
Mr. Willie Lee Curry, age 77, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Atmore Community Hospital. He was born in Escambia County, Ala., to the late Woodrow, Sr. and Rosie Curry and attended Escambia County Training School. He moved to Jersey City, N.J. and lived for many years retiring as a truck driver before moving back to Atmore in 2002.
Upon moving back to Atmore he united with the Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church where he served faithfully as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Male Chorus until his passing. He also was a member of the Atmore Community Male Chorus. He loved fishing and working with lawns.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosie Lee Williams, Mary Crenshaw-Evans, Irene Coleman, Ethel Mae Bowen, Josephine Lewis, Lucy Curry, Catherine Curry, and Louise Hawthorne; his brothers, Eddie Lee Curry and Woodrow Curry, Jr.
Mr. Curry is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Curry of Atmore; one daughter, Susie (Walter, Jr.) Brown of Jersey City, N.J.; five sons, Willie Earl Curry, Eric (Charlotte) Curry, Greg (Rhonda) Curry all of Jersey City, Michael (Sandra) Curry of Moncks Corner, S.C. and Mark Curry of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Elizabeth (Jimmy) McPherson and Savannah Curry of Atmore; three brothers, Samuel (Betty) Curry, Sr., Aaron ( Marjorie) Curry, and Melvin (Clara) Curry all of Atmore; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Morning Dove Baptist Church in Perdidio, Ala. at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dennis K. Stephen, Pastor of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church – Nokomis, Eulogist and Rev. Stanley Cox, Host Pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery- Nokomis.
Public viewing will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 from 2 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and his body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
