Walter Russell Braswell

Mr. Walter Russell Braswell, age 86, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Mobile, Ala. He was born in Jefferson County, Fla. to the late Jeff David and Bertha Lee Robinson Braswell. He served in The United States Army and was a member of New Home Church in Poarch, Ala. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, William David Braswell, Virginia Goodreau, Daisy Lee Givens, Mae Robertson and Arthur Ray Braswell. 

Mr. Braswell is survived by his son, Wayne Russell (Kelly) Braswell of Little Rock, Ark.; his daughters, Cathy (Jed) Dukes of Atmore, Elaine (Chuck) Bender of Marianna, Fla. and Carol Lynn (Rick) Appel of Texas; his brother, James (Shirley) Braswell of Pensacola, Fla.; his sisters, Mary Frances Powers of Richmond, Va., Irene (Bob) Waldow of Keystone Heights, Fla. and Betty Ruth (John) Hudson of Greenville, Fla.; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel in Atmore, AL with Bro. Steve Breceda officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. 

Active pallbearers will be Rowdy Boyte, Keith Philips, Greg Cueto, Dustin Hall, Cecil Corey and Chad Johnson. 

The family received friends Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel.

Russell and Joyce Braswell

Joyce King Braswell

Mrs. Joyce King Braswell, age 74, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Mobile, Ala. She was born in Brewton, AL to the late Dewey and Addie Fuqua King and was a member of New Home Church in Poarch, Ala. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ivan King, Allie Belle Strength, Madeline Minchew, Dewey King, Jr., Jenelle Moye and Shelby King. 

Mrs. Braswell is survived by her son, Wayne Russell (Kelly) Braswell of Little Rock, Ark.; her daughter, Cathy (Jed) Dukes of Atmore; her step-daughters, Elaine (Chuck) Bender of Marianna, Fla. and Carol Lynn (Rick) Appel of Texas; her grandchildren, Selina, Laraby, Stormie and Riley and her great-grandchild, Aubrey Grace. 

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel in Atmore, AL with Bro. Steve Breceda officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy McGee, Chad Smedley, Randall Reed, Galen Mock, Anthony Hall and Dylan Baggett.

Barney Willard Cash

Mr. Barney Willard Cash, age 88, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at his home in Century, Fla.  He was a native of Valley, Ala., and former resident of Brewton, Ala. and had resided in Century for the past fifty-two years. He was owner-operator of Century Motors, enjoyed farming and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Wayne Cash; parents, Willard and Cora Cash; three brothers and three sisters. 

Mr. Cash is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Irene Odom Cash of Century; one son, Barney (Lisa) Cash, Jr. of Century; one daughter, Kay Cash (Kenny) Hammac of Century; one daughter-in-law, Karen Cash of Flomaton, Ala.; four brothers, George (Ann) Cash of Bay Minette, Ala., Odell (Linda) Cash of Huntsville, Ala., Gene (Aggie) Cash of Franklin, Tenn. and Milford Cash of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Joyce (Al) Erskin of Texas, Shirley (Wayne) Owens of Brewton, Ala., Becky Cash of Pensacola and Linda Batte of Brewton; four grandchildren, Beth Ward, Ryan Cash, Kenny Hammac, Jr. and Kristal Hammac; six great- grandchildren, Tyler, Brooklyn, Gavin, Paislee, Emma and Kyler; one great-great-grandson, Linkin and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Johnson and Rev. Doug Odom officiating. Burial will follow at McCurdy Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 10, 2020 from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be Ryan Cash, Bill Hammond, Don Cox, Greg Odom, Kevin Odom and William Odom.

Lillian M. Jackson

Jackson

Mrs. Lillian M. Jackson, age 83, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 in Atmore, Ala. She was born on in Atmore to the late A.C. and Lily McGhee. She was a member of Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William R. Jackson; her son, Archie Ray Jackson and her brother, Wilbert Vickery. 

Mrs. Jackson is survived by her sons, Ronnie Ray Jackson of Bay Minette, Ala. and William D. (Tammy) Jackson of Uriah, Ala.; her daughter, Wanda Jackson of Poarch; her grandchildren Candi, Wesley Ray, Lynn, Debra, Jenny, Archie Ray, Jr. and Kenny Ray and six great grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. at New Home Cemetery in Poarch with Bro. Ricky Tedder officiating.  

The family will receive friends Monday, October 12, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Christine S. Sowell

Sowell

Mrs. Christine S. Sowell, age 90, of Mobile, Ala., passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020. She was born in Monroe County, Ala. to the late Rufus and Tommie Beatrice Hammac Sanspree.  She was a lifetime member of First Assembly of God Church in Atmore, Ala.  She was a precious Saint of God and prayer warrior. She loved God, her family and her friends deeply. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Charlotte Johnson, Sandra Cottrell and Gloria Goodman; her husbands, Millard Johnson, Eugene Foster and Lafayette Sowell. 

Mrs. Sowell is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Randy) Hogan and Annette (Gary) Odem; her son, Virgil (Dawn) Sowell and her son-in-law, David Cottrell; her sister, Pat Hobbs and numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church.

Active pallbearers will be the First Assembly of God’s Monday Night Prayer Meeting Men.

Dominic LaShawn Stallworth

Mr. Dominic LaShawn Stallworth, age 26, of Atmore, Ala., passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile, Ala. A native of Atmore, he was a graduate of Escambia County High School. He loved guitars and was known for playing his guitar at singing events. 

Mr. Stallworth is survived by his mother, Teresa Stallworth of Mobile;  his father, Curtis Tucker of Atmore; grandparents, Mary and Isaac Poindexter of Atmore; step-father, Darrell Cordier; one sister, Zy’keriya Stallworth of Mobile and one brother, Demarcus Stallworth of Atlanta, Ga., uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 16, 2020 fro, 2 until 5 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.

Celebration of Life graveside services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church – McCullough Cemetery with Rev. Charles Jones officiating.

Jessie James “RED” Salter

Mr. Jessie James “RED” Salter, age 80, of Atmore, Ala., (Freemanville Community) passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Atmore Nursing Center. A native of Atmore, he was retired from Masland Carpets serving over thirty-two years as a machine operator. He attended Escambia County Training School. He was a member of House of God Pillar Ground of the Truth holiness Church. He enjoyed sitting on his porch, going to church, a big Los Angeles Laker fan, as well as an Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

Mr. Salter is survived by three daughters, Valeria Salter of Atmore, Jessica English and Jennifer English, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; four sons, Winston Salter of Mobile, Ala., Overseer Shawon Salter and Jerry Johnson, both of Atmore and LeDon English of California; one step-son, Terry Johnson of Atmore; two sisters, Lula Banks and Minister Melanie Etheridge, both of Atmore; three brothers, Kenny Salter, Robert Salter, and Glen Young; twenty-four grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 from 2 – 5 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.

Celebration of Life graveside services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Ms. Bertha M. Knott, age 62, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Ala.
