Escambia County Healthcare Authority officials had not released by Tuesday’s press deadline its twice-weekly update on COVID-19’s presence within Escambia County. No reason was provided for the absence of the report.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health website, Escambia County has seen 1,653 cases — 1,376 confirmed and 277 “probable.”
Over the past 14 days, 86 new cases have been confirmed among county residents, and the death toll has risen by two, to 26. ADPH records show that 429 individuals have been tested for the virus over the past two weeks.
According to data compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, two new cases were confirmed among residents of Atmore Nursing Center during the period between September 13 and September 20.
That brings ANC’s confirmed cases to 38 among residents, 23 among staff members. Seven residents have died as a result of the virus.
At Brewton’s West Gate Village, no new cases were reported between September 13 and September 20, leaving the facility’s totals at 68 residents and 42 staff members. The deaths of eight WGV residents have been attributed to COVID-19.
Without the twice-weekly report, no information was available for the virus from Atmore Community Hospital and D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital.
