Franklin “Red” D. Cotton

Cotton

Mr. Franklin “Red” D. Cotton, age 83, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, August 3, 2020. He was born to the late J. D. and Ada E. Brown Cotton. He owned and operated The T&W Flea Market and numerous furniture stores in Pensacola, Fla for many years. He moved to Atmore and opened The Atmore Flea Market, Cotton’s Furniture Store and Cotton’s Mini Storage. He was a member of The First Pentecostal Church of McCullough. He was a caring and generous person who loved helping anyone in their time of need. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Pat Hutson and his siblings, Jack Cotton, Ernest Cotton, Buster Allen Cotton and Morris Cotton. 

Mr. Cotton is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Beulah Grissett Cotton; his sons, J.R. (Virgie) Cotton and  T.W. Cotton, all of Pensacola and Matt (Kelley) Cotton of Atmore, AL; one daughter, Ashley Cotton of Atmore, AL; one brother, Gary Cotton of Atlanta, Ga. and two sisters, Virginia Hendry of La. and Barbara Aceto of Pensacola. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Andy Lolly and D.L. Harvell officiating. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 8, 2020 from10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Larry Wilber Godwin

Mr. Larry Wilber Godwin, age 71, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, August 3, 2020.  He was born to the late Siddie Godwin and Claudia Parker Godwin Mitchem. He served in the United States Army and worked in the construction industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Cliff Mitchem and his siblings, Judy Paul, Geary Godwin and Terry Godwin.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his sibling, Jan (James) Jeter;  his step-siblings, Cliff (Deborah) Mitchem, Jr., Sandy Grabre, Jim (Denise) Mitchem and Tim (Katherine) Mitchem;  his nieces, Becky Ganey and Vicky Jeter; his nephews, Pete Godwin and Allen Hall; his children, Christy (Ronnie) Huskey, Bubba (Sylina) O’Barr, Wade Minchew and Natalie (Mark) Rodgers; his grandchildren, Rylee Huskey, Ruthie Huskey, Tad Huskey, Karahgan O’Barr, Camryn O’Barr, Shyla O’Barr, Dakota O’Barr, Bailey Jones, Gavin Rodgers, Landon Rodgers, Chase Minchew, Chelsea Minchew, Christopher Minchew and Chandler Minchew.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating. Interment followed at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Fla.

Active pallbearers were Freddie Jernigan, Bill Ganey, Bo Bryan, Ronnie Huskey, Mark Rodgers and Lathon Owens.

The family received friends Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Franklin “Tracey” Hall

Hall

Mr.Franklin “Tracey” Hall, age 60, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday August 6, 2020.  He was born to the late Charlie Ernest and Margaret Coker Hall. He was a 1977 graduate of Ernest Ward High School and attended Hall’s Fork Assembly of God Church.  He worked in the construction industry and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and playing bass guitar.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Timothy “Timbo” Hall and his sister, Delois “Dee” Hall. 

Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of forty years, Donna Hanks Hall; one daughter, Donna King (Joseph Lee Holloway) of Uriah, Ala.; one son, James R. “J.R.” Hall (Virginia) of Gordo, Ala.; one brother, Tony (Jeanene) Hall of Bay Springs, Fla.; one sister, Donna Lee Hall of Atmore; nine grandchildren, Tracie, Alexis, Jaxon, Lillie, Allyson, Jayson, Landon, Aiden and Emma Rose. 

Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Daniels and Bro. Wendell Hadley officiating. Interment will follow at Bay Springs Cemetery in Bay Springs, Fla. 

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Hall, Jake Jordan, Jaxon King, Ronald Peebles, Sammy Lee and Tony Hall. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Bodiford, Keith Jay, Paul Lundy and Jimmy McKinley. 

The family will receive friends Friday, August 7, 2020 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Nannette Cobb Shell

Mrs. Nannette Cobb Shell, age 87, passed away Friday, August 7, 2020. She was born and lived in Atmore for eighty-four years. For the past three years, she resided at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort, Ala. She was born to the late Nancy Lowery Cobb and William Rufus Cobb. She retired after a successful career at Atmore Milling and Elevator. She then embarked on a second career at Escambia County High School. Upon her second retirement, she began her last and final career as the loving Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found joy in gardening, cooking and sharing with others. She could often be found on her tractor with its bushhog. She was the longest surviving member of First United Methodist Church of Atmore and loved her time working with the children in the nursery during church services.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Cobb and Ty Cobb and sister, Linda Bodtke.
Mrs. Shell is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, James Howard Shell; children, Nancy Shell Fayard (Gary) of Atlanta, Ga. and James Burton (Kim) Shell of Pawleys Island, S.C.; five adoring grandchildren, John Fayard, Chris Fayard, Mollie Shell Schimmel, Laura Shell, Sam Shell and three great-grandchildren, Liam Fayard, Isabelle Fayard, and Charlotte Fayard. Her most cherished role in life was being “Nana” to all and loving them each “50 million”.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donald Wayne Gunn

Mr. Donald Wayne Gunn, age 62, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020 in Montgomery, Ala.
He was a native of Atmore, Ala., raised in Flomaton, Ala. former resident of Atlanta, Ga. and had resided in Flomaton for the past ten years. He was a 1976 graduate of Flomaton High School, owner/operator of an over the road trucking company and drove for Holox Trucking Company. His hobbies included collecting antique cars and traveling. He attended Lambeth-Boutwell Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Moye Gunn; brother, Walter E. Gunn; maternal grandparents, Ellis and Ola Moye and Walter and Emma Gunn and numerous aunts and uncles.
Mr. Gunn is survived by his father and step-mother, Ben and Donna Gunn of Flomaton; two brothers, Kenny (Latecia) Gunn of Brewton, Ala. and Herbert (Tish) Rabren of Auburn, Ala.; two sisters, Debbie (Mike) Dawson of Flomaton and Brenda (Roger) Turner of Sims, Ala.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Boutwell and Bro. Josh Pope officiating. Burial followed at Lambeth-Boutwell Cemetery.

Julie Hadley

Mrs. Julie Hadley, age 89, of Perdido, Ala. passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020.  She was born to the late Arlene Ganey Harville. She was a member of Perdido Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Marvin Hadley; her sons, Edward Hadley, Earl Hadley and Anthony Hadley and her sisters, Thelma Harville and Virginia Gentry. 

Mrs. Hadley is survived by her grandchildren, Tammy Harrelson (Chris Chandler) of Lottie, Ala., Angie (Jerry) Cowart of Pine Grove, Ala., Kim Hadley (Glenn) Dorsey of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Shelia Kay Hadley of Calif. and Clayton Hadley of Rabun, Ala.; her great-grandchildren, Zayden, Jessica, Tonya, Brittany, Brianna, Brian, Tristan and Gunnar and six great-great grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Malcolm Harrelson officiating. Interment will follow at Guy’s Chapel Cemetery in Rabun, Ala. 

Active pallbearers will be Clifford Hall, Jr., Jerry Cowart, Marcus Loftis, Blake Bossard, Clayton Hadley and Terrance Newsome.

Leroy Harrison

Mr. Leroy Harrison, age 87, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020.  He was born on to the late A.B. and Nannie Melton Harrison. He was married to his beloved wife, Edna Earl Sanspree Harrison, for thirty-three years who has preceded him in death.

A private funeral service for Mr. Leroy Harrison will be held at a later date with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Laconstance Rivers Wiggins, age 38, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 at her home.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Sidney Grant, Sr.
Pastor Sidney Grant, Sr., age 72, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, July 31, 2020. He was born in Atmore to the late Dan Cleveland and Hattie Grant. He was a 1965 graduate of Escambia County Training School. He was a retiree of Masland Carpets in Atmore. He began his Christian walk at Mt. Gillead Missionary Baptist Church; later with Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church and then First Baptist Church of McCullough serving as pastor for a number of years. In 1996 he followed the direction of Christ building New Order Missionary Baptist Church. In his leisure he enjoyed visiting the sick and shut in and raising fruit trees.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Eddie and Josie Grant and Jeanette Williams.
Pastor Grant is survived by his wife, Katie Ruth Grant; four children, Tracey (Charles) Williams, Sidney (Nicole) Grant, Jr., Jemeka (Steven) Johnson and Latoric (Avis) Grant; ten grandchildren; two brothers, David (Odessa) Grant and Donald (Ruby) Grant, Sr.; sisters, Annie (Joe) Rudolph, Delores Montgomery, Houston Montgomery, Mary
Montgomery and Willie (Marie) Montgomery; special family members and friends, Donald Grant, Sr., Dr. Monroe and Nora Tucker, Jr., Bishop Dashwood and Pastor Nancy Riley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11 a.m. at New Order Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Alfonso Williams presiding and Dr. Monroe Tucker, Jr. Eulogist. Interment following in the Grant Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Josiah Grant, Sidney Grant, Jr., Latoric Grant, Houston Montgomery, Willie Montgomery and Oneal Montgomery.
