Troy Eugene Byrd

Mr. Troy Eugene Byrd, age 89, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 in Fairhope, Ala. He was a native of Oak Grove, Fla. and had resided in Atmore, Ala. for the past sixty-four years. He was a member of the Carney Masonic Lodge #549 of Atmore and First Baptist Church of Atmore. He was owner and operator of Troy Byrd Water Well Service, a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict with the 101st Air Borne Screaming Eagles, retiring with over twenty-six years with the Army and Alabama National Guard. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Component with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Faithful Service Ribbon of Alabama with 2 Saint Andrews Crosses and Special Service Medal of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Jasper H. and Mary Ester Byrd; brother, Floyd Russell Byrd; granddaughter, Kandice Byrd and great-grandson, Landon White.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Margaret Byrd of Atmore; two sons, Ronald Eugene (Glynith) Byrd of Atmore and Bobby (Lisa) Byrd of Oak Grove; two daughters, Patricia Ann (David) Gibbs of Atmore and Janet (Ricky) Burkette of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Margie (Terry) Gartside of Orlando, Fla.; eleven grandchildren, Ashley (Chad) White, Lindsay (Michael) Wood, Stacey (Kevin) White, Matt Burkette, Taylor Byrd, Audrey Bryd, Kristen (Luke) McDaniel, Zach Burkette, Kayleigh Burkette, Sean (Merdith) Searls and Kevin (Pheobe) Searls; ten great-grandchildren, Bryson White, Brayden White, Kinzy Wood, Kylie Wood, Hayden White, Huxley White, Hadley White, Wade McDaniel, Gage Searls and Dexter Searls; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends and beloved pet, Duffy, a West Highland Terrier.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 28, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Matt Burkette, Zack Burkette, Chad White, Michael Wood, Kevin White and Luke McDaniel.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Biggs, Leo Amerson, Leon Lyles, Wade Cox, Tommy Qualls and Don Long.

Brandon Amin Brye

Mr. Brandon Amin Brye, age 40, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was a native and life-long resident of Brewton, Ala. He was a veteran serving in the US Army with twelve years of service. He was of the Christian faith.

Mr. Brye is survived by his mother, Mary Brye of Brewton; wife of two years, Jasmine Brye of Brewton; two sons, Cameron Brye and Kayden Brye, both of Brewton; one daughter, Ayleen Brye of Germany; one brother, Zebedee (Shana) Brye, III of Durham, N.C.; one sister, Angie (Arthur) Jones of Sacramento, Ca.; two nephews, one niece and friends, Tamekea Copeland and Lillie Graham.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Nathan Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Don Theodore Chunn

Mr. Don Theodore Chunn, age 80, passed away Monday February 24, 2020 in Vestavia Hills, Ala. He was a native of Uriah, Ala., former resident of Huxford, Ala. (where he spent most of his life) and has resided in Vestavia Hills, AL for the past nine years. He was a retired farmer, member of ALFA, Farm Bureau, where he was past president, the Escambia County Farm Agency and the Bethel United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Lemuel and Ethel Dee Chunn and brother, James Chunn.

Mr. Chunn is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Margie Ann Chunn of Vestavia Hills; two sons, Tony Ray Chunn of Medford, Ore. and David (Cooper) Chunn of Pinson, Ala.; one daughter, Donna (Geoff) Brenneman of Medford, Ore.; three sisters, Luverene (James) Smith of Jackson, Ala., Wilma Johnson of Bainbridge, Ala. and Ruth Mothershed of Huxford; three grandchildren, Andrea Topham (Matthew) Frazier, Darin Topham and Dylan Topham and three great-grandchildren, Alayna, Avelyn and Austin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Diane Everett officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Smith, Kevin Smith, Timothy Smith, Dylan Topham, Gary Johnson and Paul Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Coker, Whitey Chunn and Mike Johnson.

Peggy A. Moye

Mrs. Peggy A. Moye, age 84, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Century, Fla. She was born on in Escambia County, Ala. to the late Edgar and Jesse Maude Keller Coker. She was a member of Presley Street Baptist Church. She was a retired chemical operator from Monsanto.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Elbert Coker, Evelyn Thurman, William Coker and Bobbie Stallworth.

Mrs. Moye is survived by her husband, John C. “J.C” Moye of Atmore; children, Debra Thrower of Atmore, Richard (Pam) Moye of Bay Minette, Ala., Tony (Kim) Lambert of Satsuma, Ala.. Rondel (Karen) Moye of Sharon, S.C., Robert (Janice) Moye of Bratt, Fla. and Regina (James) Hare of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two brothers, George Coker and James (Susie) Coker; two sisters, Faye (Mike) Morris and Millie Purvis; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joseph Simpson officiating. Interment followed in Moyeville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were James Bell, Wendell Wearren, Ken Thomas, Don Smith, Lonnie Turberville and Dave Stephens.

The family received friends Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 11 a.m. until service time at Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

John Willard Neff

Dr. John Willard Neff, age 90, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at his residence. He was born on in State College, Penn. to the late Joseph and Viola Hoy Neff. He was a Clinical Psychologist, had an undergraduate at Penn State University, master’s degree at Florida State University and a PHD at Ohio State University.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Joseph L. Neff, George Harris Neff, James Irvin Neff, William Russell Neff and one sister, Anna Viola Neff.

Dr. Neff is survived by his two sons Eric (Linda) Neff and David (Christy) Neff; six grandchildren, Angie, Kory, Kristi, Natalie, Danielle, Lisa (Matt) and five great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Peyton, Isabel, Angelena, Khloe.

A private memorial service was held at his home.

Mary Helen Hall Dortch

Mrs. Mary Helen Hall Dortch, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, 21, 2020 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Thompson. She was born in Freemanville, Ala. to Jeff and Lilli3e Hall. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sammie Lee Dortch; parents; a step-mother, Ruby Mae Hall; son, Sammie Dortch, Jr., daughter, Rose Helen Dortch; five brothers, John Lee Hall, Johnnie E. Hall, Jeff Hall, Jr., Herman Hall and Jeff C. Hall; brothers-in-law, Willie Lee Riley and Deacon Roy Thompson

Mrs. Dortch is survived by five children, Earl L. Dortch, Irma Jean (Alex) Thames, Donald D. Dortch, Angelean Dortch and Melissa (Nickolas) Thompson, all of Atmore; stepson, Kenneth W. (Glenda) Brown of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Zulema (Robert) Johnson, Mattie Hall, Linda Shiefield of Dayton, Ohio and Carrie Riley of Atmore and Loree Ambrose of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Larry Hall of Birmingham and Clarence (Joanie) Hall of Dayton; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie D. Banks officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her sons and grandsons.

Flower bearers were her granddaughters.

Mitchell Hall

Mr. Mitchell Hall, age 57, of Atmore Ala., passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020. He was born to Annie Pearl and Benjamin Hall Sr. He rarely met a stranger, was a hard worker and would give anyone his last. He was always warm and welcoming to everyone.  He understood the word of the Lord “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ceola Rivers; his mother; precious niece, Bree Hall; son, Emmanuel Rivers and many other relatives.

Mr. Hall is survived by his father, Benjamin (Gladys) Hall, Sr.; daughter, LaConstance Rivers; four grandchildren, Sabrina De’Andre, Jasmine and TyDestiny, all of Atmore; five brothers and best friends, Benjamin Hall Jr., Ricky (Gloria) Hall, Terry Hall, Bernard (Mary Gene) Hall and Michael Hall; seven sisters, Lorraine Hall Pugh, Nellie Hall Sanders, Sonjia Hall Williams, Carla (Michael) Phar, Kimberly B. Grayson, Mary (Tommy) Jackson, Patricia (Archie) Rankins, all of Mobile, Ala.; devoted sister in love, Mary Gene Hall and devoted niece, Bianca America; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Holiness Church with Rev. Dan Abner, Pastor and Rev. Norman Nelson, officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his brothers and friends.

Leola Cunningham

Mother Leola Cunningham, age 88, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was born in Calhoun County to the late Mrs. Pacience Hare Knight and Mr. Matthew McCall. She was educated through the public school systems and was employed with Suffolk Development Center of Melville, N. Y. for many years. She and her husband established two churches in New York, The Church of God by Faith in Long Island, N. Y. and The Church of God in Christ of Westbury, N.Y. After retiring and moving to Alabama she and her late husband established, True Faith Church of God in Christ on Robinson Drive of Atmore. She was renowned for her cooking and her dedication to both family and community.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, stepfather; husband, Bishop Charlie G. Cunningham and three brothers: Leroy Knight, Wilbert Knight and Joe Knight.

Mother Cunningham is survived by three children, Allen James (Fuyumi) Howard of Calif., Shirley Gaston (Sylvester) Brown and Joyce (Jeff) Gardner, all of Atmore; one God-daughter, Apostle Mary America of Atmore; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Amir; devoted family and friends: Elder Curtis Williams family of Orlando, Fla., Apostle Mary America and Mrs. Susan Saint of Atmore and Brother James of Bay Minette, Ala. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with First Lady Kimberly North, Host Pastor; Overseer Catadro North, Bishop and Elder Curtis Williams, Eulogist.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 2000 from 2 until 6 p.m. at Robinson-Christian Memorial Funeral Home.

Christina (Chrissy) Marie Atkins

Ms. Christina (Chrissy) Marie Atkins, age 37, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 in Atmore. She was a homemaker. She was born in Monroe, Wash. to Dennis John Fecteau and Brenda Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis John Fecteau.

Ms. Atkins is survived by her parents, Brenda (Timothy) Brock of Atmore; two daughters, Keyonna Atkins and Kasiyah Atkins; two brothers, Dennis “D.J” Fecteau and Kristopher Fecteau; one sister, Cheyenne Brock and many family and friends.

A memorial services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with Bro. Josh Long officiating.
