Sara “Tiny” Waters

Mrs. Sara “Tiny” Waters, age 66, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Atmore, Ala. She was a native of Atmore and had resided in the Century and Flomaton area for most of her life. She was a member of the Gospel Light Temple Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Earl Waters; parents, Thomas and Jewell Hanks; daughter, Kim Sims; two brothers, Thomas Hanks and Kenneth Hanks and two sisters, Genene Baggett and Mary Griffis.

Mrs. Waters is survived by one son, Jamie Waters of Flomaton, Ala.; one daughter, Ashley Lee of Flomaton; two sisters, Glenda Averett and Elizabeth Johnson, both of Atmore; numerous grandchildren; two special grandsons, Ryder Lee and Brayden Lee and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Carnley officiating. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 7, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Dak Sims, Wade Harris, Jamie Waters, Johnny Griffis, Jon Griffis and Sammy Portwood.

Honorary pallbearer will be Travis Moye.

Levon McKinley

Mr. Levon McKinley, age 75, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020.  He was born in Atmore to the late Bessie Mae Browning and James Thomas McKinley, Sr. He was a 1963 graduate of Escambia High School. He traveled all over the country working as a truck driver.  He was known for his love of good southern food, wearing his overalls, and cheering for his Alabama Crimson “Roll Tide!”  He enjoyed fishing at the beach front on the gulf coast, watching sports, or listening to church sermons on the radio.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; an infant brother; older sisters, Pauline, Christine, Irene, and his older brothers Clarence “Bo,” James “Bud,” and Kenneth.

Mr. McKinley is survived by two children, Jimmy McKinley and Misty Reyes; sister, Margie Wasson; two grandchildren, Kayla and Khristian Reyes and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will celebrate his life Saturday, February 8, 2010 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Funeral Home.

Graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. at Serenity Gardens Cemetery off U.S. Hwy 31, Atmore, AL 36502.​

Angela Findley

Mrs. Angela Findley, age 64, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla.  She was a native and former resident of Louisiana and had resided in Century, Fla. for the past thirty-eight years. She was a twenty-five year employee of Century Pharmacy and an honorary member of the Sisters on the Fly. She was of the Baptist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Deanna Aucoin and granddaughter, Nickole Lowery.

Mrs. Findley is survived by one son, Blaine (Tamara) Findley of Century; one daughter, Amanda (Clint) Lowery of Century; three brothers, Kirk (Darlene) Aucoin and Wayne (Jennie) Aucoin, all of Bayou Vista, La. and Brian (Joan) Aucoin of Locust Grove, Ga.; two sisters, Shelly Scott of Mobile, Ala. and Lisa Latorre of Alexandria, La.; six grandchildren, Clay, Cameron, Ethan, Makayla, Lexi and Kyle and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 7 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Nathan Brown officiating. The will be no interment.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 6 until service time at 7 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Shirley Smith

Ms. Shirley Smith, age 68, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 at D. W. McMillan Hospital

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. Siloam Baptist Church.

Leonard McConnico

Mr. Leonard McConnico, age 77, of Brewton, Ala. passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at his residence.

Elaise Washington Bonner

Mrs. Elaise Washington Bonner, age 84, of Century, Fla., passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020. She was born in Lowndes County to the late Irene Darby and W. J. Whatley. She was a faithful member at Apostolic Faith until her health began to fail.

She was preceded in death by Edward Earl Bonner, Sr. and Ella Louise Jones.

Mrs. Bonner is survived by her children, David L. Sanders of Mobile, Ala., Larry L. (Angelia) Ware Sr., of Boykin, Ala., Charles Washington of Century, Calvin Washington of Decatur, Ala., Tyrone L. (Angela) Bonner of Columbus, Ga., Dorothy of Brewton, Ala., Gloria A. Grace of Flomaton, Ala., Stephanie Washington of Pollard, Ala. and on brother, Bobby Joe Whatley of Greenville, S.C.; two devoted nieces, Patricia Hampton and Cindy Whatley McKinney; a host on nieces, nephews, grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Apostolic Faith Church, Century with Pastor William W. DuPout officiating. Interment followed at Century Cemetery, Century, Fla.

Pallbearers were her nephews and grandsons.

Flower bearers were her nieces and granddaughters.

Doris Lynn Brooks

Mrs. Doris Lynn Brooks, age 64, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020. She was born to the late Elizabeth McMillian Moore and Prince Moore. She was a 1974 graduate of Escambia County High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She lived most her adult life in Detroit, Mich. where she was employed with the Detroit Public School System for thirty-two years. She was a member of Second Cannon Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit, and Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Atmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gregory Brooks and uncle, Isrel McMillian.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by her twins, Rayshaud Brooks (Marshay) of Jacksonville, Fla., Rayshaun Beaver (Maurice) of Atmore; significant other, Eddie Waters of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren, N’Kaiah Agee, Timothy Sanders, Mariah Coffey, Maurice Beaver Jr., Sanni Brooks, Iycis Brumfield; two brothers, Douglas McMillian (twin), Henry (Spunk) McMillian; two sisters-in-law, Winona Brooks, Martha Shanklin, both of Detroit; special friend, Albert Rice; sisters in love, Lillian Forney, Laura Ann Pettway, Doris Collins and Twila Roberts Pierce. Thirteen nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and nephews and many special friends and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson, Sr., Pastor officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chike Brooks, Johnathan Brooks, Richard Frye, Christopher Frye, Jeremy Herbert and Lee Watson. Flower bearers were friends and family.

Helen Stacey Houck Courtney

Mrs. Helen Stacey Houck Courtney, age 86, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 in Atmore. She was born in Canoe, Ala. to the late J.D. Curtis and Nettie Louise Smith Stacey. She worked most of her life as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis Houck; siblings, Curtis Stacey, Eloise Ellis, Maedell Bartley.

Mrs. Courtney is survived by her son Larry, (Betty) Houck and daughter, Martha Floyd, all of Atmore; four brothers, Elvin (Carolyn) Stacey of Pensacola, Fla., Ronald (Lola) Stacey of N. C.; John Stacey and Doyle (Bonnie) Stacey, all of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Vivian Faye Havers of Houston and Linda Stacey of Georgia; grandchildren, LaDonna (Mike) Dervin, Bridgette Houck and Craig (Katie) Kast and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery.

Terry Dennis Rigby

Mr. Terry Dennis Rigby, age 60, of Oak Grove, Fla., passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Columbia, S.C. He attended Auburn University. He was a retired fleet maintenance supervisor for Escambia County Solid Waste with over thirty-two years of service. In 2018, he was honored by the Escambia County Commission for his long career. He served as a volunteer for the Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department, next month would have made 40 years and served as chief from 1988 to 1989. In 2012, he was named Officer of the Year and was honored for his decades of service to the department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Doris Tichi Rigby.

Mr. Rigby is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Sherri Clauss Rigby of Oak Grove; two children, Chad Rigby of Oak Grove and Kristi Rigby Hughes of Orlando, Fla.; two grandsons, Devin and Dakota Hughes; one brother, Russell Young of S.C. and numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 14, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Flannigan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be the Escambia Country Fire and Rescue Honor Guard

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

George Ivey “Buddy” Edwards

Mr. George Ivey “Buddy” Edwards, age 95, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Monday, February 10. 2020. He served as Priest in the Community of Christ Church of Brewton, where his wife was a founding member; and most recently, enjoyed the services and activities of the First United Methodist Church. He retired in 2000 as Owner of Branco Wood Products, after which he worked with his son for five years in the American Longleaf Pine Seedling Nursery. After tending the plants and flowers in the Garden Center at Walmart for another five years, he retired for a third time. He was a member of the Brewton Lion’s Club with his father, later serving as President. In addition to his attentiveness to his large family and to church communities, he was passionate about guiding and influencing others including his nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ivey Edwards and Anna Belle Scott Edwards; his sister, Yvonne Edwards Corbitt’ and his wife of seventy-two years, Elizabeth Anne Roberts Edwards.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his children, Michael I. Edwards (Maureen), Sandra E. Edwards, Carol E. Crook (Jimmy) and Steven L. Edwards (Sharon); sixteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Williams Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local church or charity.

Langson Nickolson

Mr. Langson Nickolson, age 19, of Mobile, Ala., passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020.

Antonyo Shondell McMillan

Mr. Antonyo Shondell McMillan, age 39, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Atmore to Otis and Shirley McMillan English. He was a member of New Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a 2000 graduate of Escambia County High School. He loved to sing and became a member of the Gospel Travelers in 2005 singing faithfully until his health failed.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George McMillan Sr., Blanch English and Leila English and Uncle Percell English.

Mr. McMillan is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Demetria Ellis McMillan; two children, Audreana McMillan and Antonyo McMillan, Jr.; parents, Otis and Shirley English; one sister, Leila English of Atmore; three brothers, Renard McMillan, Angelo English, all of Atmore and Demetris Moore of Walnut Hill, Fla.; grandmother, Dorothy McMillan of Atmore; three nieces, two nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gillead Baptist Church with Pastor, Darlene McMillan, Faith Pentecostal, officiating. Interment followed in Pierce Rabb Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Makail Lee, Jeffery Bright, Timothy Bright, Billy Staples, Victor Staples and Thaihee Staples.

Flower bearers were his friends.
