Shirley Marilyn Vickrey Fayard

Mrs. Shirley Marilyn Vickrey Fayard, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Atmore. She was born in Huxford, Ala. to the late Bernard E. “Bunk” and Daisy Myrtle Kent Vickrey. She was a faithful member of Presley Street Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, pianist and member of the choir. She retired from First National Bank of Atmore after forty-eight years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Billy Turberville; brothers, Lawrence Vickrey and Doug Vickrey.

She is survived by her husband, H. Curtis Fayard of Atmore; three sons, Greg (Kelly) Turberville of Enterprise, Ala.; Mike (Terri) Fayard of Seminole, Ala. and Bryan (Candace) Fayard of Flomaton, Ala.; two sisters. Nell Owens and Ann (Larry) Davis, all of Atmore; one brother, Weldon (Kay) Vickrey of Mineola, Ala.; five grandchildren Erin, Kaylee, Cody, Emily and Curt; three great-grandchildren Arabella, Owen and Finn.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 27, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Presley Street Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Simpson, officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday, January 27, 2020 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Presley Street Baptist Church.

Shirley Lamar “Von” McGhee

Mr. Shirley Lamar “Von” McGhee, age 77, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Willie Lee (AD) Martin and Shirley McGhee. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ann McGhee; his parents; three brothers, Alex “Jody” Martin of Poarch, Robert “Bobby” Martin of Atmore and Earl McGhee of Foley, Ala.; two grandchildren, Courtney and TyAnthony McGhee.

Mr. McGhee is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Eldnar McGhee; three sons, Stevie McGhee, Derrick McGhee and Kevin (Tawana) McGhee, all of Poarch. two daughters, Teresa (Terry) Smith of Poarch and Pamela (Willie) Yates of Flomaton, Ala.; special nieces, Shirley “Pug” (Aubrey) Roberson of Poarch and Margaret (Ronnie) Baggett of Huxford, Ala.; five brothers, James Martin of Spanish Fort, Ala., Phillip (Donna) Martin of Huxford, Matt (Denise) Martin of Flomaton, Randy (Carrie) Martin of Poarch and Ellis (Cindy) Martin of Wetumpka, Ala.; three sisters, Olivette McGhee of Poarch, Patricia Ann Tew of Brundidge, Ala. and Angela Devilbiss of Perdido, Ala.; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2020 at 2 p.m. from the Atmore Apostolic Church with Rev. Tim James and Bro. Hunter Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in Judson Indian Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jarrod Tew, James AgertonBrady Tew, Lucas MartinBrad Martin and Brice Agerton. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 6 p.m. until service time on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Atmore Apostolic Church.

Bobby and Vada Byrd

Bobby and Vada Byrd

Bobby and Vada Byrd, of Montgomery, Ala. and formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, January 24, 2020.

Bobby loved to work with his hands. From fixing cars to breaking down car parts or building new foundations for his many out buildings, he was always tinkering with a project.

Vada was the kindest, gentlest soul. She loved everyone she came into contact with and enjoyed cooking for all. She was the best home cook ever. Whether it was her baked goods or her famous hamburger squash dish, her food was always memorable. Their presence and love will truly be missed by all who knew them.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sonny Byrd and his sister, Judy Panayiotou.

Vada was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Winston Eicher.

Mr. Bobby Byrd is survived by his daughter, Amanda Reed; his sister, Marilyn Martinez and his brother, Michael Byrd as well as extended family.

Mrs. Vada Byrd is survived by her sister, Nadine Eicher; her brother, Elton Eicher and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel to celebrate their lives.

James Junior McKinley

Mr. James Junior McKinley, age 83, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Pensacola. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late James “Jim” and Bessie Mae Browning McKinley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence McKinley.

Mr. McKinley is survived by one brother, Levon McKinley of Gulf Port, Miss.; one sister,
Margie Wasson of The Villages, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 31, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby
Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating. Burial followed at a later date in McCullough Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday January 31, 2020 at from 10:30 until service time at 11:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Taneka Sheree Johnson

Ms. Taneka Sheree Johnson, age 39, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Mobile, Ala. She was born in Houston, Texas. She was an avid New Orleans Saints Fan. She worked at Z-Tel in Atmore, Ala. for a few years as well as food services and preparation of taxes.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Helen Burkett.

She is survived by her parents, Brenda (Wesley) Gardner of Poarch and Thinh Tong of Houston; one brother; two sisters, Amanda (Scott) Flowers of Mexia, Ala. and Emily Godwin (Austin Risher) of Uriah, Ala.; nieces and nephews, Ashton Flowers, Chase Flowers, Raiden Risher, Emma Risher and many family and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Gipson officiating. Burial followed in Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Atmore, AL.

Active pallbearers were Shay Gipson, Daniel Creel, Justin Kendrick, Sam Ward, Shane Ward, Shawn Ward, Allen Hall and Joe Clay Howard.

Honorary pallbearers were Chase Flowers and Raiden Risher.

Dorothy Jean Coley

Ms. Dorothy Jean Coley, age 56, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Atmore. A native of Atmore, she attended School in Escambia County (AL) and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Lee Coley and Richard Williams, and a sister, Hilda “Tootsie Roll” Coley Burks.

Ms. Coley is survived by three sons, Eric (Krystal) Coley of Millbrook, Ala., Joshua Coley and Ja’Quan Coley both of Atmore; one sister, Susie Coley of Jackson, Miss. and a devoted cousin, Minister Marie Coley Hartley of Atmore; two grandsons, Amir and Preston; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service was held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at noon at Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Church – Hwy 21 – Atmore with Rev. Freddie Banks, Host Pastor and Bishop Tommie Thomas, Eulogist. Interment followed in Fairview

Cemetery.

Antonio McMillian, age 39, of Atmore (Poarch Community), Ala., passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, Fla.

Irma Beck Pritchett

Mrs. Irma Beck Pritchett, age 95, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020. She was born in Camden, Ala. to the late Annie Mae and James Beck. She was a graduate of Camden Academy and attended Knoxville College receiving her Bachelor of Art and completed studies At Alabama State University. She taught Elementary Education at Escambia County Training School for twenty years and at Escambia County Middle School and Rachel Patterson. She retired in 1981 after thirty one years. She lived a life that clearly epitomized that of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. She was known for her fashionable attire. She was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years and also a member of the Mattie Mallard Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of fifty-six years, Eldred Pritchett and a brother, Robert.

Mrs. Pritchett is survived by two daughters, Rita and Anita (Robert); four grandchildren, Derek (Regina) Fleming, Sheldon (Jamila) Greene, Justin (Chiara) Fleming and Kellye Greene; six great-grandchildren, Dayzhonna, Ashleigh, Aiden, Abel, Zara and Aiyla; cousin, Quendolyn Newell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 31, 2020 at noon at Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor and Eulogist. Interment followed at Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Derek Fleming, Justin Fleming, Sheldon Greene, Steven Harris, Marshall Pritchett and Gregory Pritchett.

Honorary pallbearers was the Atmore Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Flower bearers were the Class of 1971 and 1972.

Nellie Lee Myles

Mrs. Nellie Lee Myles, age 91, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020. She was born in Atmore to the late Oliver “Bud” and Christian Elmore. She was a graduate of Escambia county Training School and attended Alabama State University. She enjoyed her flowers, cooking, canning and collecting her souvenir cows. She is a life-long member of Zion Star A.M.E. Zion Church.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Titus Elmore, Sr.’ four sisters, Olive Muriel Joyner, George Otis, Gloria Butler and Mable Trotter.

Mrs. Miles is survived by her children, Billy G. Elmore of Huntsville, Ala., Percy (Paula) Fisher of Rock Hill, S.C., Barbara Webb of Century, Fla., Arralean Ellis Fairfax, Vir., Mildred L. Young of Laurel, Maryland, Carolyn West of McDonough, Ga., Edward M. Myles of Atmore and Valerie Joyner of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Val Jean (Butch) Elmore of Cincinnati; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; devoted family and friends, Deloris Gandy, Doris Lee, Mary Daughtry, Vicky Mason and David Taylo0r and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Zion Star A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev.

Jean Archie, Pastor and Eulogist. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Garland Ellis, Jamal West, Cardwell Young, Edward Myles, Jr. and Samuel Ellis Johnson.

Flower bearers were family and friends.
