The Poarch Creek Indians recently held the 10th Annual New Year’s Eve Youth Sobriety Pow Wow at the Poarch Community Center.
The event welcomed over 60 young dancers from ages one to 17.
According to event organizer Chris “Ding Ding” Blackburn, the event is designed to offer an alternative for young people, other than partying.
“It offers a chance for the community to come together and bring in the New Year together,” Blackburn said. “It helps keep young people off the streets and out of trouble.”
The Pow Wow offered free food and door prizes and was free to the public to attend.
“It’s a great thing to be able to offer this event each year to our youth and community,” Blackburn said. “Every dancer wins, and there are no losers. Every youth who participates in the Pow Wow gets some kind of prize and it keeps us together as one family.”
