Kirk Jay, who reached the finals among singers on television’s The Voice last year, will be the featured performer for Destiny Worship Center’s 14th annual Stomp the Yard event.
The annual free “gathering of gifted youth” will take place from noon until 5 p.m. this Saturday, October 5, at Atmore’s Houston Avery Park.
Jay, from Bay Minette, performed with country stars Blake Shelton (whose team he was on) and Rascal Flatts during competition on The Voice, during which viewers from across the country rated him one of the top four contestants.
“Kirk Jay is also going to sign autographs and do some motivational speaking,” said Dr. Bernard Bishop, co-pastor of the local church. “We plan to showcase the talents of the youth in our community and surrounding areas, with a God-inspired theme.”
Destiny’s Elements of Worship will also perform at the event, as will other local artists, youth drama teams and more. Escambia County High School Principal Dennis Fuqua will be the keynote speaker.
There will also be free food and free games, including a bouncy house, basketball, softball, ping-pong, relay races and tennis. Bishop said a water slide has been added to help offset the high temperatures and dry conditions the area has experienced of late.
“All children must be accompanied by an adult,” Bishop reminded those who plan to attend. “Also, because this is an all-day event, we ask that everyone bring a chair and/or an umbrella.”
Volunteers are needed to help make the event a success. Anyone who would like to donate his or her time, as well as anyone wishing more information on this year’s Stomp the Yard, is urged to call 251-577-1430.
