William L. Etheridge 

Mr. William L. Etheridge, age 77, of Navarre, Fla., passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 in Navarre. He served in the United States Army and then retired from the United States Air Force. He was a Staff Sargent and served during Vietnam. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late William E. and Eunice Bryars Etheridge.

He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Brenda Bryars Etheridge and a sister, Midge Richburg.

Mr. Etheridge is survived by his children, James (Shelly) Etheridge of Pace, Fla., Sybil Etheridge of Pensacola, Fla., Jason Etheridge of Calif., Joleen Etheridge of Navarre; seven grandchildren Leslie, Dylan, Clayton, Jordan, Tyler, Aiden, Rebecca and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Bryars-McGill Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 10 a.m. till service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Stanley Ray “Papa Smurf” Boutwell, Sr.

Mr. Stanley Ray “Papa Smurf” Boutwell, Sr., age 57, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at his home in Pollard, Ala. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Pollard for most of his life. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Boutwell, Jr.; brother, Dean Boutwell and two granddaughters, Kylie Boyd and Kirstianna Boutwell.

Mr. Boutwell is survived by his mother, Nancy Boutwell of Atmore; wife of forty years, Barbara A. Boutwell of Pollard; one son, Stanley Ray Boutwell, Jr. of Jay, Fla.; three daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Scott of Jay, Stephanie (Ryan) Alldaffer of Flomaton, Ala. and Tiffany Garcia of McAllen, Texas; four brothers, Jimmy (Rhonda) Boutwell of Canoe, Ala., Randy Boutwell of Flomaton, Todd Boutwell of Atmore and Shawn (Angelia) Boutwell of Evergreen, Ala.; two sisters, Vickie (Eddie) Wright of Atmore and Candy (James) Wright of Brewton, Ala.; seventeen grandchildren, Austin, Matthew, Dyllan, Kiersten, Gabby, Dakota, Dawson, Kamden, Darryl, III, Luke, Rylee Ray, Ciara, Dominic, Jovanny, Adrianna, Stanley, III and Mercedes; extended family, Tommy Turk, Curtis Johnson, Gerald Hudson and Jerry Arrant and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Malcolm Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Austin Boutwell, Dyllan Scott, Trent Wright, Samuel Wright, Tyron Boutwell, Steve Emmons, Bubba Tedder and Ryan Alldaffer.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Wright and Matthew Boutwell.

Larry Staten DeWise

DeWise

Mr. Larry Staten DeWise, age 71, of Megargel, Ala., passed away at Mobile Infirmary Saturday, September 14, 2019 on his birthday. He was born in Uriah, Ala. to the late Levearn ‘Boots’ and Truddie DeWise.  He was a 1966 graduate of Frisco City High School. He worked for Southern Pine Electric Cooperative for thirty-eight years and was affectionately known as ‘Chief’ to friends and coworkers. He enjoyed and collected classic cars. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and participated in many tribal activities after his retirement.

Mr. DeWise is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Joann Gill DeWise; son, Stan DeWise (Amy) of Daphne, Ala.; stepchildren, Janet Gunn (Ryan) of Brewton, Ala., Steven Aplin of Uriah and Amy Jay of Megargel; sister, Sara Jane Wiggins (Janice) of Frisco City, Ala.; brothers, Murrell DeWise of Pascagoula, Miss., Ronnie DeWise (Sandy) of Uriah; aunt, Linda Cook (Ronny) of Magnolia Springs, Ala.; grandchildren, Haleigh Ridgeway, Aaron Bosarge, Samuel Bosarge, Peyton Wilkins, Nathan Aplin, Brooklyn Jay and Parker DeWise.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Sowell Old Field Cemetery in Goodway, Ala.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny Andrews, Pat Harrison, Johnny Jordan, Chuck Pumphrey, David Saucer and Chad Addison.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rance Wiggins, Aaron Bosarge, Samuel Bosarge, Peyton Wikins, Nathan Aplin, Parker DeWise.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.

Sunji Renae Hunter

Mrs. Sunji Renae Hunter, age 54, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at her home in Century, Fla. She was a native of Brewton, Ala. and had resided in the Byrneville/Century, Fla. area for the past thirty-three years.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Nix.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by her father, James A. Nix of Flomaton, Ala.; husband of twenty-four years, Greg Hunter of Century; two sons, Steven Lee (Jessica) Nix of Castleberry, Ala. and Joshua D. (Shantae) Nix of Pace, Fla.; five grandchildren, Willow, River, Nova, Angelia and Julia.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bernice Lewis, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at her home.

James Dewayne Hunter

Mr. James Dewayne Hunter, age 34, of Monroeville, Ala., passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 to James and Carolyn Hunter in Monroeville. He was a member of Belleville Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education in Conecuh County up to 12th grade. He later received his GED. He was employed as a Security Guard at I-65 rest area for several years

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ivey and Mildred Montgomery; L.T. and Willie D. Dailey and Viteria Hunter.

Mr. Hunter is survived by his parents; one brother, William Darnell (Melanie) McCreary of Enterprise, Ala.; one sister, JaQuese Stallworth of Clearwater, Fla.; one grandfather, Julius Hunter of Pittsburg, Texas; several aunts; Brenda Stallworth, Velma (Terry) Randelson, Phyllis (Jesse) Redmon, Deborah Williams, Patricia Montgomery; one uncle, Albert Boney; one great-uncle, Harvey Thames; one great-aunt, Earnestine Fountain and devoted friends, Robert Caldwell Jr, Master Simpson and Tiffany Watkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Belleville Missionary Baptist Church, Belleville., Ala. with Rev. Daniel Thompson IV, Pastor and Rev. Anthony Thanes, officiating. Interment followed at Belleville Missionary Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were cousins.

Flower bearers were friends.

Channie Ann Roberts

Mrs. Channie Ann Roberts, age 91, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at her home. She was born in Clark County to Roosevelt and Martha Burrell. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Nokomis, Ala. serving faithfully in any capacity. She was known for her culinary skills and her green thumb for nature. Her most tasteful remembrance will be her delicious caramel cake. She was employed for many years at Merritt Cleaners until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph Burrell, David Burrell, Peter Burrell and Andrew Burrell and sister, Fannie Lee Brown.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her children, Judy Sanders, DeAngelo Burrell, Harold Dailey, Moses Dailey, Jr., Ted Dailey, Wendall Dailey and Patricia Reynolds; five granddaughters, Monique Sanders, Tracy (Henry) Yelldale, Domonique (Fred) Watson, Michelle Dailey and Robyn Johnson; grandson Justin Burrell; eight great-grandchildren; one special great-granddaughter, Kearden “Sarah” Frye; sisters, Mary Curry and Agnes Wilson; devoted families, The Brock Family and Jackson Family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Catadro North, Pastor and Bishop Dr. Willie L. Williams, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
