Melvin L. Carpenter

Mr. Melvin L. Carpenter, age 74, passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. He was a native and former resident of Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Bay Minette, Ala. for the past fifty-nine years. He was retired from Atlantic Marine and Alabama Dry Dock as a machinist with over thirty years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Biggs Carpenter; parents, Ira and Lennie Carpenter; sister, Marilyn Carpenter Welch and brother, Jerry Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by one son, John “Randy” (Donna) Carpenter of Perdido, Ala.; two daughters, Angela (Al) Jordan of Bay Minette and Sonya (Matt) Calametti of Mobile, Ala.; two brothers, Steve (Gail) Carpenter of Atmore and Raymond (Rebecca) Carpenter of McDavid, Fla.; six grandchildren, Alex Carpenter, Danielle Carpenter, Andy Jordan, Gage Calametti, Justin Calametti and Joseph Calametti.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Eloise Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Serenity Garden Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 6, 2019 from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Al Jordan, Andy Jordan, Christian Black, Jimmy Biggs, Gage Calametti, Matt Calametti and Rick Burkett.

Dolores “Jean” Sawyer 

Mrs. Dolores “Jean” Sawyer, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a native of Salina, Kans., former resident of New York City and had resided in Molino, Fla. for the past twenty-five years. She was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. She enjoyed art making, repairing porcelain dolls and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Eula Stermer.

Mrs. Sawyer is survived by two sons, Tom (Lori) Sawyer of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Lawrence Sawyer of Molino, Fla.; two sisters, Joany (Ray) Linam of Atmore, Ala. and Janet (Bill) Moore of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Sara Sawyer and Destinee Sawyer.

Lena Mae Odom 

Odom

Mrs. Lena Mae Odom, age 83, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in Century, Fla. She was a native of Jay, Fla. and had resided in Century most of her life. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Calvin Odom; son, James Michael Odom; parents, Sidney and Fannie Warrick; brothers, J.T. Warrick, Dawyan Warrick, Red Warrick and Rayford Warrick and sisters, Ola Pearl Lambeth and Fannie Bell Warrick.

Mrs. Odom is survived by one daughter, Joyce Ann (Mike) Gunn of Century, FL; daughter-in-law, Danette Odom of Century, FL; six grandchildren, Shonna Gilmore, Lynae Clarke, Joy Malone, Danette Odom, Megan Jernigan and Marissa Apple; four great grandchildren, Emma Gilmore, Sawyer Gilmore, Bennett Malone and expected baby, Jernigan and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Odom officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Eric Gilmore, Nick Clarke, Ryan Malone, Tab Jernigan, Greg Apple and Joey Warrick.

Flora M. “Dell” Lowery 

Lowery

Mrs. Flora M. “Dell” Lowery, age 87, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 in Atmore, Ala.

She was native of Elba, Ala. and resided in Century, Fla. for most of her life. She was a member of the Century Chamber of Commerce and the Century United Methodist Church. She was the former owner of Lowery’s Food Store and Car Sales.

Mrs. Lowery is survived by her two daughters, Vickie Dell Soto of Miss. and Nancy Jean (Mike) Wedgeworth of Flomaton, Ala.; one sister, Emma Virginia McCurdy of East Brewton, Ala.; five grandchildren, Jill McMullan, Michael Ward, B.J. Ward, Allie Ward and Mike Wedgeworth, Ill.; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Jonathan Hill officiating. Burial will follow at McCurdy Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Andy McCurdy, Eddie Dunsford, B.J. Ward, Michael Wedgeworth, Kobe Ward and Jack McCullan.

Molly Allen Norris 

Norris

Mrs. Molly Allen Norris, age 81 of Atmore, Ala., passed away September 5, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Pineville, Fla., to the late Robert “Bobby” William and Agnes Joiner Allen. She was a lifelong member of the Atmore First Assembly of God church where she played piano and served in many capacities in the church. In her working career she worked for Hoehn Firestone Tire, Atmore Advance and for Dr. Ben Maxwell at Physician Associates of Atmore. She enjoyed her and her husband’s ministry at Atmore Nursing Home where she also volunteered in the beauty shop.

She was preceded by her parents and two brothers Daniel Allen and Harold Allen.

Mrs. Norris is survived by her husband, Edgar D. Norris of Atmore; two children, Terry (Becky) Norris of Belforest, Ala. and Janet (Steve) McGill of Atmore; three sisters, Mary Lee (Robert) Morrison of Spartanburg, S.C.; Irene Goodman and Joyce McGraw, both of Theodore, Ala., four grandchildren, Chris (Stephanie) Phillipy, Rebecca (Tom) Hartner, Whitney (Jacob) Malohovich, Jordan (Lewis) Jones and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Norris, Steve McGill, Jacob Malohovich, Tom Hartner, Lewis Jones and Michael Roley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dudley Coleman, Webb Nall, Cecil Daniel, Norman Wilson, Charles Wilson, Mike Stacey and Gerry McGhee.

Ray D. Landis 

Landis

Mr. Ray D. Landis, age 82, of Souderton, Penn., passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was born in Souderton to the late Alvin F. Landis and the late Edith (Derstine) Landis. He was a 1954 graduate of Souderton Area High School. He attended Pierce Business School and worked as a business clerk for Moyer and Son, as a business administrator for Elvin R. Souder Law Office and as an accountant for Detweiler Hershey and Associates, all in Souderton, in the business management department at Aibonito Mennonite Hospital in Aibonito, Puerto Rico and then as a cashier and in the produce department for Landis Supermarket in Telford. He was a member of Franconia Mennonite Church serving as a youth leader. He was a missionary pastor in Puerto Rico for 9 years and was involved in local church planting. Ray was a member of First Mennonite Church in Norristown where he was involved in the Spanish ministry and later became a member of Perkiomenville Mennonite Church. Throughout his ministry, he always served as a song leader and Sunday school teacher. Ray also sang with the Franconia Lancaster Choral Singers and the Zion Choral Society for many years.  He volunteered his time at the Souderton Mennonite Homes by reading the Bible and singing with the residents.

Ray loved spending time with his family. He was an avid reader and student of the Bible and enjoyed creating weekly flower arrangements for the Perkiomenville Mennonite Church. He was very passionate about music and singing. A highlight in his life was when he sang with his family as the “Landis Family Singers” and they took a 3 week trip to Puerto Rico where they sang in 13 different Mennonite churches. He enjoyed flowers and gardening and was awarded many ribbons for his horticultural entries. He enjoyed photography and visiting and singing to the elderly.

He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, and loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Although reserved, Ray was a faithful and loyal servant especially to the church. He was a hardworking, principled, creative, and intelligent man.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Darla Joy Landis and his sister, June Ruth.

Mr. Landis is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Celia N. Landis; five children, E. Keila (Michael) Goshow of Hatfield, Penn., David R. (Deborah) Landis of Atmore, Ala. , Ruth N. (Jeffrey) Janton of Pennsburg, Penn., Alvin R.(Dawn) Landis of Telford, Penn., and Rachel A.(Paul) Stinedurf of Clio, Mich.; nineteen grandchildren, Tirsa, Tori, Micah, Diana, David, Darren, Monica, Veronica, Natalie, Valerie, Josiah, Esther, Anna, Samuel, Faith, Montague, Maxwell, Morgan, and Paige; seven great-grandchildren, Hayden, Sydney, Jax, Daisy, Tommy, Zeke, and Joy; sister, Charlotte Landis of Harleysville, Penn. and brother, David (Sharon) Landis of Harleysville, Penn.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. from Perkiomenville Mennonite Church 1836 Gravel Pike, Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania. Burial will follow at Perkiomenville Mennonite Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 9, 2019 from 9 a.m. – 11a.m. at Perkiomenville Mennonite Church.

Llewelynn Stallone Shoemake

Mr. Llewelynn Stallone Shoemake, age 36, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at West Florida Hospital, Pensacola, Fla. He was born to Belinda Shoemake and Melvin Currie. He was a 2002 graduate of Escambia County High School.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Tiny R. Nolen and great-grandmother, Robirta Shoemake; one aunt, Doris Wallace and a host of uncles.

Mr. Shoemake is survived by his mother, Belinda Shoemake of Atmore; father, Melvin Currie of Atmore; grandfather, Claude McCants; Aunts, Ethel Bradley of Pensacola, Celestine Leslie and Vera Shoemake, both of Atmore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and Devoted friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Isabelle Brazzell officiating eulogist. Interment followed in Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his cousins and friends.

Flower bearers were family and friends.

Monica Michelle Pace

Ms. Monica Michelle Pace, age 33, passed away August 23, 2019 at North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette, Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala., to the late Levon and Shirley Lett. She attended school in Atmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Terry Crenshaw.

Ms. Pace is survived by nine sisters, Sherry Haynes, Latonya Pace, Linda (Lester) Barnes, Pearlie (Willie) Knight, Jackie (Michael) Brown, Shirley (Melvin) Washington, all of Atmore, Carolyn Jean (Jazz) Crump, Florence (Greg) Taylor, both of  Youngstown, Ohio, Kathy Ann (Willie) Finklea of Frisco City, Ala.; three brothers, Dexter Pace, Kendrick Pace and Devon Pace, all of Atmore; three devoted aunts, Ola (Allen) Brannon of Prattville, Ala., Margie Borganier of Pascagoula, Miss. and Louise Tate of Moss Point, Miss.; two special nieces, Zariyah Haynes and Shaniyah Hurst; one special nephew, Jamarcus Cunningham; six devoted friends, James Ponzo, Daphne Powers, KaJunna Lykes, Meka “C.E.O.” Johnson and Candice Brooks, all of Atmore; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Cleveland Biggs, Pastor of God’s Anointing Ones, officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Flower bearers were her nieces.
