Violent two-vehicle collision on Alabama 21

Atmore and Poarch police, along with Alabama State Troopers, were at 7 p.m. still at the scene of a violent, two-vehicle crash that happened around 6 p.m. today (Sunday, Aug. 18), about a mile south of Wind Creek Casino, on the rain-soaked southbound lanes of Alabama 21.

Details are sketchy at this time, but three ambulances, their lights flashing and sirens sounding, were seen racing from the wreck scene and toward Atmore Community Hospital around 6:30 p.m.

The crash caused traffic to back up from the accident site to beyond the casino. With both vehicles on the roadside, and all victims removed by medics, traffic eventually began to move slowly through the area.

A Poarch police officer said southbound traffic was being diverted just north of the wreck site, and another police officer said he “didn’t think there were any fatalities.”

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area, as troopers conduct their investigation and tow trucks arrive to move the mangled vehicles.

More details will be published at this site as they become available.
