On May 17, at Escambia County High School’s Class Day, the Escambia County Training School Alumni Gathering awarded $2,000 in Golden Eagles Scholarships to four seniors.
Those awarded scholarships were Nigeria Bradley, Rickeyonna Johnson, Mardaizah Salter, and Darriona Nichols. Each recipient received $500 which will be mailed to her college after one semester / quarter is completed by December 2019.
This is the first time the Golden Eagles Scholarships have been awarded by the Escambia County Training School Alumni Gathering, which is a nonprofit organization. Each year, members of the group come together to enjoy fellowship and a meal and to raise funds for community projects and now for scholarships as well. The event is hosted by the ECTS Class of 1967.
Barbara Poole Harris, founder and chairwoman of the Gathering, presented the scholarships at Class Day.
“We would like to thank all who donated to this worthy cause,” she said. “We also appreciate all other donations down through the years. The fundraiser is ongoing. Any amount is accepted and appreciated.”
The next ECTS Golden Eagles Alumni Gathering is set for Friday, October 4, at David’s Catfish House. The program begins at 8:46 a.m.
Eula McNeal Davis serves as advisor to the alumni group.
