Sonya Marie Robinson Mims

Mrs. Sonya Marie Robinson Mims, age 52, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 in Mobile, Ala. She was a native and life-long resident of Atmore, Ala. She was a 1985 graduate of Escambia County High School and was Drum Major choreographing her own routines. She had a strong spirit and loved helping others. She loved riding and training horses, writing songs, music and was an advocate for the National Kidney Foundation. She was a member of the Huxford Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Bessie Robinson and two brothers, Frank Henderson “Bo” Robinson and Randall Park Martin.

Mrs. Mims is survived by her husband of eight months, Joe Frank Mims II of Atmore; one daughter, Anna Marie Thomas of Atmore; two step-sons, James Clayton (Ramona) Mims of Mexia, Ala. and Brandon D. (Kaylie) Mims of Robertsdale, Ala.; four brothers, Earnest Newman (Gaylin) Robinson of Montgomery, Ala., Wyatt (Carol) Robinson and Keith (Rochel) Martin, all  of Atmore, Lawrence “Brahama” Robinson of Wakulla, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Frances (Junius) Long of Bay Minette, Ala. and Nelda Sue (Cassidy) Dukes of Atmore; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 12, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. James Boyd officiating. Burial followed at Huxford Baptist Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, April 12, 2019 from 9 until service time at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Troy Clemmons, Cassidy Dukes, Chris Robinson, Keith Martin, Brandon Mims and Jeremy Robinson.

Giles D. Chapman, Jr. 

Mr. Giles D. Chapman, Jr., age 91, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 in Atmore. He was born in Demopolis, Ala. to the late Giles D. and Lida Alston Chapman, Sr. He was a retired drug salesman from McKesson and Robbins Drug Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn T. Chapman and a sister Joyce Fleming.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his son, G. David (Carolyn) Chapman, III of Gulf Shores, Ala. and daughter, Mary “Kathy” (Bryan) Keel of Atmore; sister, Jo McVay of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Dixon Keel and David (Melissa) Keel.

Graveside services were held Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Hill Cemetery in Grove Hill, Ala.

A celebration of life service was held Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 2 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore with Pastor Mike Blair officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the “More Than Bricks Fund” at First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

Ailene Sams

Sams

Ms. Ailene Sams, age 85, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Center in Pensacola, Fla.  She was a native of Atmore, and graduated from Escambia Co. Training School. She attended college for nursing. As a young woman, she relocated to Port Chester, N.Y. where she worked many years for the Stouffer’s Hotel. In her leisure time she enjoyed walking, cooking, attending church and quartet singings, and planting her flowers. She relocated back to Atmore in 2008 and united with Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Sams; her parents, Ben and Susie Bell Salter; her sisters, Geraldine Stephens and Irene Salter Thomas.

Ms. Sams is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Sams (devoted) and Debbra Sams both of Atmore, Glenda Sams of Charlotte, N.C. and Sherry Sams of White Plains, N.Y.; one sister, Alice Jones of Wabassa, Fla.; one brother, Grady (Euthia) Salter of Fairfield, Calif.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday. April 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Joe L. Hayes, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, April 19, 2019 from 2 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Her remains will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Barbara Lynn “Tammy” Martin

Ms. Barbara Lynn “Tammy” Martin, age 50, passed away April 10, 2019. She was born to William and Ella Mae Martin in Frisco City, Ala.  She was a 1987 graduate of Escambia County High School.  She was a music lover was known for her favorite saying “It is; What It Is!”. Early in life she was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist and later under the leadership of her sister, Pastor Darlene McMillan called Faith Pentecostal Church her church home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Catherine Lemon; two brothers: Willie Martin and Roy Martin; one niece, Tikeshia Martin, two nephews: Terry Martin and Antonio Martin; one great-niece, Catherine “CAT” Martin.

Ms. Martin is survived by her daughter, Jasmine Martin; one grandson, Landen Simpson; her siblings, Linda (Mayor Allen) Lang of Frisco City, Ala., Eddie (Cynthia) Martin of Excel, Ala., Edward (Theresa) Martin, Deborah M. Peterson, Darlene (George) McMillian, Eartha (John) Jones, Cathy (Joe) Jones, all of Atmore Ala., Sandra (Walter) Greene of Panama City, Fla., Bobby (Jeannette) Martin Fayetteville, N.C. and Jamie Dailey of Frisco City; three Godchildren: Mercedes Hall, Mitchinlina Hall and Zephaniah Crenshaw; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Martin of Monroeville, Ala. and Nancy Martin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church with Elder Edgar L. McCarthy, Pastor and Pastor Darlene McMillan officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her nephews and great-nephews.

Flower bearers was the Class of l987 and her nieces.

Volley Reynolds, Jr.

Mr. Volley “June Bug” Reynolds. Jr., age 48, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Volley and Nazzie Brooks Reynolds, Sr. After the death of his mother, he was reared by his grandparents, Annie and Allen Reynolds and his siblings. He was a 1990 graduate of Escambia County High School. He was employed with National Carrier Trucking Company. He enjoyed time with his family and friends telling stories of his many travels across the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Allen and Annie Reynolds and William and Ada Brooks; one brother, Kenneth Reynolds. Sr.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Leskis Finklea; sons, Alexander Kidd and Miles Curry; five sisters, Chevonia Riley, Janice Reynolds and Brenda Pace, all of Atmore, Chandra (Joseph) Etheridge of Pensacola, Fla., Annetter Reynolds of Minneapolis, Minn.; one brother, Makhail (Schmenia) Reynolds of Atmore; one uncle, Allen Reynolds, Jr. of Denver, Colo.; aunts, Floristein Johnson, Annie Ruth (Elmore) Johnson of El Paso, Texas, Dorothy Brazzell, Mattie Johnson and Amelia Brooks, all of Atmore and Callie Thames of Brewton, Ala.; mother figure, Miss Lillie Johnson; three cousins reared as brothers, Randy Johnson, Charles Wiggins and Frederick Wiggins along with a host of nieces, nephews. Great Nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Greater Mount Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor officiating. Interment followed at Stallworth Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Karean Reynolds, Derrick Riley, Torenardo Reynolds, Keith Reynolds, Makhail Reynolds, Charles Wiggins, Kitchrett Reynolds, Randy Johnson, Frederick Wiggins.

Flower bearers were his nieces and Class of 1990.
