The Atmore Lions Club met Wednesday, April 3, at the Atmore Community Hospital’s Mayson Auditorium.
Lion Candace Wooten presided and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Renee Hardy gave the blessing.
Lion Christy White introduced Barry Elliott as our speaker. Elliot is the director of Alabama Lions Sight and explained some of the things Lions do for the less fortunate in our state. Alabama Lions Sight was organized in 1944 and is the oldest charitable organization of Lions in Alabama, aiding over 7,000 people this year, many at Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham where Lions support the staff and facility.
Announcements included a reminder about the state convention in Orange Beach May 3-5 and members were asked to bring canned food to the next meeting to send to Orange Beach for a service project. The golf tournament is scheduled for May 16, and Mayfest is the first Saturday in May.
Lion Dana Vickrey announced that the Alabama Bicentennial Exhibit will be in Atmore May 2-22 at The Club. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held May 2 at 4 p.m. Normal open hours will be Monday through Friday from noon until 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, May 5 and 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
