Obituaries for week of March 31, 2019

Willie Bernard Blackwell 

Mr. Willie Bernard Blackwell, age 82, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Excel, Ala., former resident of Conecuh Co, Ala., and had resided in McDavid, Fla. since 1978. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army where he retired with twenty years of service and received two bronze stars. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved to fish, garden, travel and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mary Blackwell.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Marianne Blackwell of McDavid; one son, Juergen (Ursula) Blackwell of Ettlingen, Germany; two sisters, Doris Adams of McDavid, and Faye (Jack) Merchant of Bluff Springs, Fla.; one grandson, Sven Blackwell and one great- grandson, Sam Blackwell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, 2019 at 10 a.m.at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. William Chancery officiating. Burial will follow at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be the Military Body bearers.

Amber LaShell Holland 

Ms. Amber LaShell Holland, age 39, passed away at her home Wednesday, March 27, 2019. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and resided in Poarch, Ala. She attended Faulkner State Community College receiving an Associate Degree. She was a member of the Poarch Band Creek Indians and was very passionate of her Native American Heritage. The title of “Honorary Princess” was bestowed upon her by the Poarch Band Creek Indians Tribal Council. Amber was given the Indian name of Hywanesha, which means “Weeping Willow” in the Creek Language. Besides her passion for the tribe, she was also passionate about Alabama Football, Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys and Wind Creek Casino, where she worked as a security greeter for seven years.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Curtis Edward McGhee, Ervin and Elsie Holland.

Ms. Holland is survived by her mother, Carrie (Randy) Martin of Poarch; father, J.T. Holland of Poarch; two sisters: Crystal (Jerry) Sanchez of Perdido, Ala. and Courtney Holland of Poarch; nieces, Alyssa, Keleigh, and Isabella; nephews, Logan and Bryden; maternal grandmother, Pearline McGhee and a very special caregiver, Ms. Nikki Bowens.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Tedder officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Martin, Clayton Coon, Ellis Martin, Dylan McGhee, Matthew Martin and Dave Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stephanie Bryan, Robert McGhee, Charlotte Meckel, Eddie Tullis, Sandy Hollinger, Arthur Mothershed, Dewitt Carter, Garvis Sells, Jay Dorris, Brent Pinkston, Catherine Timmons, Tim Ramer and Terri Morris.

The family will receive Friday, March 22, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Brenda Murl Salter

Mrs. Brenda Murl Salter, age 65, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at her home in Flomaton, Ala. She was a native of Brewton, Ala. and had resided in Flomaton most of her life. She was an avid fisherman. She was a member of McCullough Christian Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Seney Shivers and sister, Lorie Matlock. Mrs. Salter is survived by two sons, William J. (Megan) Salter, III of Pensacola, Fla. and Matthew A. Salter of Flomaton; three grandchildren, Madison, Garrett and Caitlyn.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 31, 2019 at 5 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 4 until memorial services at 5 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
