Obituaries for week of February 24, 2019

James Lavon Roley 

Mr. James Lavon Roley, age 78, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019, at his home.  He was born in Atmore to the late Samuel and Bessie Godwin Roley. He attended Ernest Ward High School and later served in the Army National Guard. He attended Atmore First Assembly of God Church. He owned and operated James Roley Construction Company for over forty years. He had a true love for his family and friends and never failed to tell you or show you. The little ones knew when they saw him, he would give them “head sugar” kisses. He loved to hunt, fish, ride his golf cart around the neighborhood to visit with friends and enjoyed taking them for a ride. He enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp in Vredenburgh, Ala. He was also known for giving endearing nicknames to everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Mr. Roley is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, JoAnn Morgan Roley; his children, Debra (Clark) Tims of Robertsdale, Ala., Patsy (J. Paul) Pepin of Tampa, Fla., Michael (Katie) Roley of Atmore; step-children, Cheryl (Tony) Datuin of Florence, Ala., Johnny (Mona) Jones of Holliday, Texas, Ricky (Lisa) Jones of Century, Fla., Dina Jones of Byrneville, Fla.; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Keith Lisenby officiating. Interment followed in Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Fla.

The family received friends Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church.

Pallbearers were Bobby Freeman, Shannon Lambeth, Carl Ward, David Davis, Bret Wallace and Mark McCall.

Honorary pallbearers were James Womack, Raymond Jerkins, Eddie Baker, Blake Harris and Tony Thompson.

Willanette Troutman

Mrs. Willanette Troutman, age 82, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Atmore. She was retired from Escambia County Alabama School District as a secretary. She was born in Robinsonville, Ala. to the late Ollie and Ruby Higdon Moye. She was a member of Robinsonville Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Malcolm “Mickey” Troutman; brother, Claude Moye and sister, Earlene Helton.

Mrs. Troutman is survived by two daughters, Debra (Danny) Ward of Bratt, Fla., Sandra (Gary) Marshall of Texas; two sisters, Gladys Stanton of Robinsonville, Gertrude Smith of Atmore; two grandchildren, Danielle Ward and Mickey J. Marshall; three great-grandchildren, Noah J.  Marshall, Tyler Ward and Ava Montmayor.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-
Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phil Johnson officiating. Interment
will follow in Robinsonville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Roger Helton, Charles Stanton, Terry Troutman, Randy Smith, Justin
Beasley, and Robin Swift.

The family receive friends Friday, February 22, 2019 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Mark Lawrence

Mr. Mark Lawrence, age 67, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 in Bay Minette, Ala. He was a native and former resident of London, England and had resided in Atmore, Ala. for the past two years. He was a member of the Atmore Baptist Temple Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gladys Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Lana Williams Lawrence of Atmore; one daughter, Lori Moore of Atmore and one grandchild, Seth Clemmons.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 22, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel with Rev. Doug Odom officiating. Burial followed at Serenity Garden Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, February 22, 2019 from noon until service time at 1 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Eric Brodbent, Tyler Brodbent, Jerry McElhaney, Doug Frost, Jace Beasley and Mike Prewitt.

Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Brown, Mike Bethea and Stewart Woolard.

The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to assist with funeral expenses.

Carney Lee Fillmore

Mr. Carney Lee Fillmore, age 61, of Bay Saint Louis, Miss., passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Crystal Springs, Miss. He was born to the late Hardin George and Connie Tennant Fillmore in Baton Rouge, La. He worked in law enforcement most of his life and retired from the State of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Fillmore is survived by his twin sister Karen (Tom) Mincher; brothers, George Fillmore, Gordon Fillmore, Alfred H. Wolfe; sister, Edna (Buddy) Tolbert and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. from Pine Barren Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. James Boyd officiating. Interment followed in the cemetery.

Patricia McGhee Moody

Mrs. Patricia McGhee Moody, age 63, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in Atmore, Ala.

She was a native of Sikeston, Missouri, former resident of Eufaula, Ala. and had resided in Atmore for the past nine years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hurley and Nelda McGhee; grandson, Tyler Christopher Nelson; two brothers, James McGhee and Larry Holt and sister, Mable St. Germaine.

Mrs. Moody is survived by her two daughters, April Dawn Eisenman of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Leah Diane Powell (Chris) of Dothan, Ala.; two brothers, Tom McGhee of Gates, Tenn. and Leon Holt of Blaine, Minn.; two sisters, Louise Glen of Sycamore, Ill. and Betty Finley of Sikeston; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Gibson, Victoria Grace Powell, Johnathan David Powell, Autumn Chanelle Eisenman and Summer Rose Eisenman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Grandstaff officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Cleveland Franklin Boatwright

Mr. Cleveland Franklin Boatwright, age 78, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at his home in Atmore, Ala. He was a native and former resident of Georgiana, Ala. and had resided in Atmore for the past forty-three years. He was a retired carpenter with sixty years of experience. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillie Boatwright; wife of thirty-nine years, Lillie Mae Boatwright; two brothers, Melton Boatwright and Vernon Boatwright and three sisters, Nellie Wiggins, Willie Faye Eady and Annie Mae Eady.

Mr. Boatwright is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Theresa Boatwright of Canoe, Ala.; two daughters, Lechia Boatwright of Flomaton, Ala. and Cyndi Merritt of Bay Minette, Ala.; one sister, Elaine (Randy) Sexton of Greenville, Ala.; two grandson, Steven Flowers and Christopher Boatwright; three granddaughters, Amanda Jay, Nikki Merritt and Tierani Perry and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Malcolm Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Bowman Cemetery.

Eurline Gibson Pearson

Mrs. Eurline Gibson Pearson, 82 of Poarch, Ala., passed away February 22, 2019 in Mobile, Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Steve and Rosie Scoggins Gibson. She was a retired seamstress from Vanity Fair. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carlos Gibson, Eugene Gibson, Obie McGhee.

Mrs. Pearson is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Ralph Pearson of Poarch and one son, Paul (Carolyn) Pearson of Poarch; grandson, Justin Pearson; step-grandson, Nathan Lambeth and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. from the Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. William Rolin and Bro. Johnny Cardwell officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Uriah, Ala.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Godwin, Danny Falkner, Christopher Blackburn, Bo McGhee, Odell McGhee and Marion McGhee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Miller, Duke Bohanon and Authur Mothershed.

John Henry Carter     

Carter

Mr. John Henry Carter, age 62, of Century, Fla., was born to Vida Lee and Samuel Carter. He passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tyneeka Carter and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Carter is survived by four sons, Clifton Carter, Kurt Carter, David Carter and Joshua Carter; four daughters: Shana Carter, Tawanda Carter, Angela Carter and April Marshall; two sisters: Emma Carver of Ocala, Fla. and Minnie Williams of Century; one brother, Richard Carter of Century; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2019 at Empowerment Temple Church in Century, Fla

Stephanie Redmond

Ms. Stephanie “Step” Redmond, age 35, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019. She was born to Jeannie Ferrell and Gary Nolan, Sr. She was a 2002 graduate of Escambia County High School. She was a member of Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Centers. She worked alongside her mother at Lil’ Angels Development Center for the past 21 years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ayden Hubert; grandparents, Deloris Benjamin, Sammy and Rachel Redmond; uncles, Jerry Redmond, Robert Redmond, Henry Ferrell and aunts, Annie Richardson and Joann Mitchell.

Ms. Redmond is survived by three sons, Tommy Dortch, Jr., Devin Kelly and Jayden Hubert; parents, Joseph and Jeannie Ferrell, Gary (Arvantes) Nolan Redmond; brothers, Joseph Ferrell, Jr., Joshua Ferrell, Gary Nolan Redmond, Jr., Trevis Redmond and Athesus Straughn; sister, Tarminyka Redmond; grandmother, Annie Ferrell;  a special companion, James Hubert, Jr;. three special devoted aunts, Alice Robinson, Dorothy Peacock and Nancy Fountain; devoted uncles, Leo Benjamin and Jeffrey Robinson and a host of  great aunts,  great uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1 p.m. at

Grace Fellowship Church with Reverend Gene King, host Pastor and Bishop Darryl North, eulogist.
