Luvirn G. Mathis

Mrs. Luvirn G. Mathis, age 83, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 in Atmore, Ala. She was a native of Atmore; former resident of Flomaton, Ala., and had resided in Atmore for most of her life. She retired from Monsanto with twenty-five years of service, She was a member of Marranatha Ministries serving as vice-president.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherill and Gladys Goodwin; father of her children, Carlton Shivers and brother, Leonard S. “Buddy” Goodwin.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Bro. John K. Mathis of Atmore; two daughters, Margaret (Gene) Van Hoosen and Elizabeth Lambeth, all of Flomaton; one step-daughter, Laura Perryman of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Christeen Black of Century, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at noon at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Thurl Pearson, Sis. Carolyn Banks and Bro. Jessie Richardson officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 11 a.m. until service time at noon at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Austin Lambeth, Garrett Harper, Dylan Cook, Carl Lambeth, Ricky Van Hoosen, Ed Cook and Tucker Lambeth.

Erdeal Pennington McGhee

Mrs. Erdeal Pennington McGhee, age 97, of Monroeville, Ala., passed away Wednesday,

January 9, 2019 in Monroeville.  She was a Representative for Community Actions. She was born in Fayette, Ala. to the late Randolph Pennington.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard McGhee, Sr and a son, Jerry D. Maddox.

Mrs. McGhee is survived by two sons, Larry (Linda) Maddox of Excel, Ala. and William

Andrew (Debbie) Maddox of Northbrook, Ill.; two daughters, JoAnn Rawls of Semmes, Ala. and Marilyn Brown of Machesney, Ill.;  two step-sons, Leonard McGhee Jr. of Foley, Ala. and Murphy McGhee of Century, Fla.; one sister, Maude (Charles) Comer.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services WERE held Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby

Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Heard officiating.  Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Matthew McGhee, David Maddox, Sean Rawls, Stuart Maddox, Leonard McGhee, Jr and Bryan McGhee.

The family received friends Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m.

Mary Bell McGhee

Mrs. Mary Bell McGhee, age 71, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Wednesday, January 9,
2019 at her residence. She was a homemaker. She born in Atmore, Ala. to the late M.C. and Hattie Lou Presley Morris.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benny A. McGhee and a sister, Marilyn Ross.

Mrs. McGhee is survived by one son, Roger Adam (Althea) McGhee of Poarch; two daughters, Janet M. (Chris) Rodriguez of McCullough, Ala. and Carla M. (Andy) Hammonds of Brewton, Ala.; three brothers, Mack (Pam) Morris of Cantonment, Fla., Mack Jr. (Sandra) Morris of McDavid, Fla. and  David (Tiny) Morris of Perdido, Ala.; three sisters, Annette (late Don) Nall of Huxford, Ala., Lannette (late Michael) Turberville of Uriah, Ala. and Gallette (David) Moore of Poarch; ten grandchildren, Gia Langham, Devin Rodriguez, Brittany Rodriguez, Tori Rodriguez, Coley McGhee, Shawna Smith, Brooke McGhee, Tristan Montgomery,  Makenna Pettis and Seth “Zeth” Hammonds; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 14, 2019 at 2 p.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel
with Pastor Cornelius Phillips and Tristan Montgomery officiating. Interment followed in New Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Coley McGhee, Devin Rod, Tristan Montgomery, Steven Ross, Wesley Morris, Austin Turberville, and Seth Hammonds.

Honorary pallbearers were Maxine Johnson, Juliette Haikey, Pauline Wilson.

The family received friends Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Atmore Memorial
Chapel.

Minnie L. Coley

Coley

Ms. Minnie Lee Coley, age 79, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 at Atmore Community Hospital. She was a native of Monroeville, Miss. and a resident of Atmore most of her life.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hilda “Tootsie Roll” Coley; her parents, Judge and Maggie Coley and all of her siblings.

Ms. Coley is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Jean Coley of Atmore and Susanne Coley of Pittsburgh, Penn.; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a devoted niece/caregiver, Marie Coley-Hartley of Atmore and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Gospel Temple Pentecostal Church #2 – Atmore (Brazzell Hill) with Elder Tommy Thomas – Eulogist, Elder Brenda Mitchell – Presider and Elder Raymond Redmond – Host Pastor. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Public viewing will be Friday, January 18, 2019 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home. She will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Patricia Arlene “Patty” Hall McKinley

Mrs. Patricia Arlene “Patty” Hall McKinley, age 59, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday,
January 10, 2019 in Mobile, Ala… She was an LPN and retired as Administrative Assistant from Baldwin County DHR. She was born in Atmore to Heron and Hazel Brown Hall.

She was preceded in death by her father, Heron Hall.

Mrs. McKinley is survived by her husband, Monty Greg McKinley of Atmore; her mother,
Hazel Brown Hall of Atmore; one son, Justin Heron McKinley of Lottie, Ala.;
one daughter, Heather Joy McKinley (Jamie) Jones of Pike Road, Ala.; two sisters, Linda (Terry) Jones and Cathy (Michael) Phillips, all of Atmore; two grandchildren, Payton Jones and Ryder Jones.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 14, 2019 at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Marion Petty Stedman

Mrs. Marion Petty Stedman, age 75, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Century, Fla. She was a native of Bogia, Fla. and resided in Flomaton, AL since 1999. She was a 1959 graduate of Century High School, Miss Century High. She was a Hospice Nurse. The 1st Lady in Charleston NY Fire Department and a CDL Truck Driver.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Michael Rabon; parents, Dr. W.M. Petty and Nell Petty and one brother, Elgia Petty.

Mrs. Stedman is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Ron Stedman of Flomaton; one son, Keith (Tabitha) Stedman of Flomaton; two daughters, Kim (Will) Carter of Century and Jamie (Marty) Pierce of Schoharie, N.Y.; two brothers, Basil (Gina) Petty of Hayden, Ala. and Joe Max Petty of Bogia; one sister, Donna Fillmore of Flomaton; eight grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 14, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Stickle and Rev. Dexter Truesdell officiating. Burial followed at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Greg Fillmore, Kevin Fillmore, Warren Morgan, Will Carter, Josiah Carter and Marty Pierce.

Billy Ray Ward

Billy Ray Ward, 81, of McDavid, Fla., passes away January 10, 2019 at his home. He was a member and deacon of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church and Walnut Hill Ruritan Club.  He was in McDavid, attended Century High School and joined the U. S. Air Force. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor’s Degree. He retired from the Air Force and Civil Service at NAS Pensacola.

He was preceded in death his wife of fifty-seven years, Frances Nadine Carlisle Ward; parents, Thomas Jackson Ward and Clara Luticia Brunson Ward and siblings, Grady Leon, Eleanor Marie and Troy Eugene Ward.

Mr. Ward is survived by his daughter, Gloria Ward of Boone, N.C.; son, Donald Ward of McDavid; grandsons, Derek Berry, Sean Ward and ZeZe Williams; siblings, Bonnie Voncile (Joe) Silcox of Crossville, Tenn. and Dewey Ronald Ward of Middleburg, Fla.; sister-in-law, Barbara Posey of McDavid.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15 at 2 p.m. at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 14, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Military Body Bearers.

Arthur Junior Bell

Mr. Arthur Junior Bell, age 92, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. He was a native and life-long resident of Brewton, Ala. He retired from Kimberly Clark Paper Company. He was former owner of JR Trucking and a member of the Moyeville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur B. and Jewell Bell; daughter, Anita Bell Boyle; granddaughter, Tawaka Bell; three sisters, Gloria Bell, Juanita Bell and Mildred Lambeth and two brothers, Tharon Bell and Russell Bell.

Mr. Bell is survived by two sons, Nathan Bell of Monroeville, Ala. and Dennis Lee Bell of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Roscoe (Tommie Lee) Bell of Flomaton, O’Neil (Cathyrn) Bell and Roger Bell, all of Brewton; seven sisters, Virginia Moye of Pensacola, Eva Lou (Tom) Pittman of St. Stevens, Ala., Luverne Lowry and Judy Clay, both of Foley, Ala., Norma Jean (Don) Fritts of Lillian, Ala. and Willanet “Sunshine” (Ken) Barksdale, all of Lillian, Ala. and Cathy (Curtis) Cook of Cantonment, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michael Bell, Amanda Stokes, Kaylee Bell and Desiree Bell; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Hutto and Rev. Dempsey Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Moyeville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Artie Bell, Donald Holt, Brenton Bell, Phillip Lambeth, Randy Bell, Brandon Bell, Jeff Bell and Steven Bell.
