The Escambia County High School Marching Band and band director Hayley Cockrell have reason to be proud these days.
Twelve students were selected for the University of South Alabama Honor Band recently. They are Tyrec Packer, Vykedria Williams, Sean Bradley, Tristan Ford, Jahiem Bowens, Nakieyah Robinson, Shakur Simmons, Madison Simmons, Ray Williams, Jaelon Wilson, Jamarcus Leslie and Aniyah James.
Secondly, the band, color guard, majorettes, drum major and drumline won superiors across the board at the Daleville Invitational Band Classic September 29.
On Saturday, October 6, the band participated in the A-Town Band Invitational sponsored by the Andalusia High School Band boosters. Again, all superiors.
Cockrell was honored when one of her students, Nakieyah Robinson, nominated her and she was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars. Her congratulatory letter reads in part “This honor is presented to you because of your dedication to teaching and learning and the difference you are making as role model, source of inspiration and leader in your profession.”
