Frank Eugene “Gene” Hall             

Frank Eugene “Gene” Hall, age 89, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, September
18, 2018 at his home. He was born in Poarch, Ala. to the late Ezra and Lona Isler Hall. He served in the United States Army in Fort Bragg, N.C. He was retired after over a 30-year career with Vanity Fair Mills as a Quality Control Manager. He was an avid reader, loved to hunt and fish, and tinker in his shop. He was a member of Brooks Memorial Church choir for many years, sang bass in a men’s quartet, and loved playing the harmonica. Gene served faithfully as a deacon and participated in many church committees through the years. He fiercely loved his Heavenly Father, his wife, his daughter, his son-in-law, and his grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida R. Hall; a daughter, Kathy Jean Hall; five sisters and four brothers.
Mr. Hall is survived by his daughter, Sandra (David) Sommerman of Kennesaw, Ga. and
two grandsons, Andrew Sommerman of Marietta, Ga., and Matthew Sommerman of Memphis, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Friday September 21, 2018 at 12 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby
Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Robert Heard officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were great-nephews.
The family received friends Friday, September 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. until service time at 12 p.m.at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Ethel Annie Bost

Mrs. Ethel Annie Bost, age 92, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at her home in Atmore, Ala. She was a native of Repton, Ala. and has resided in Atmore for the past 58 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters and husbands, Herman Stokes, Jake Shiver and Robert Bost.

Mrs. Bost is survived by one son, Matt (Brenda Coker) Shiver of Atmore; one step-son, Stephen (Tammy) Shiver of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Judy Vickrey of Atmore; two step-daughters, Betty and Mary Alice; two grandchildren, Todd (Dana) Vickrey and Danny (Faith) Vickrey; four great-grandchildren, Travis (Bethany) Vickrey, Cody Vickrey, Emily Vickrey and Clayton Vickrey; special niece, Rose Pugh; special caregiver, Mildred Edwards and other nieces, nephews and many friends.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Serenity Garden Cemetery with Rev. C.L. Langford officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Catherine Mae Patrick Cofield 

Mrs. Catherine Mae Patrick Cofield, age 85, passed away peacefully Friday, September 21, 2018. She was born in Magnolia Springs, Ala. to the late Joe Lanzy Mitchell Patrick and Willie Mae Douglas Patrick. She was a resident of the Beulah community for more than twenty years and an active member of Beulah Free Will Baptist Church. She has been a resident of Century, Fla. for the last forty years and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Century and then Christian Home Free Will Baptist Church until her health failed and she was no longer able to attend. For the last couple of years she has been a resident of Century Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of thirty-nine years, Charles Harvey Cofield; step-mother, Lucille Patrick Sanders; mother and father-in-law, Maggie and Harvey Cofield; granddaughter, Ashley Cofield; four sisters, Alonia Kimbrel, Rosie Ramer, Jeanette Testone and Joanne Donahue and one brother, Elbert Ray Hendry.

Mrs. Cofield is survived by two daughters, Ann Cofield Brooks and Cathy Cofield (Jeff) Crawley, all of Century; two sons, Charles Thomas (Pansy) Cofield of Century and Gordon Wayne (Desta) Cofield of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Diane (Dickie) Smith and Marilyn Cox, all of Pensacola and Margie Weed of Mobile, Ala.; two brothers, Joe (Brenda) Patrick Jr. of Mobile and Alton (Debbie) Patrick of Deridder, La.; seven grandchildren, Lynn (Jackie) Carnley; James (Dafna) Brooks, Andy (Lonna) Miles, Jr., Angie (Allen) Williams, David Brooks, Tiffany (Steve) Morris, Beth Brooks (James) Byrd, and Maggie (Bryan) Waters; twenty great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at McCurdy Cemetery in Century, Fla.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 11 a.m. until service time at 12 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Carnley, James Brooks, Andy Miles, Brandon Carnley, Jared Carnley and Nathan Carnley.

Paulette Godwin

Mrs. Paulette Godwin, age 70, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a native and life-long resident of Century, Fla. She retired from the Alabama Department of Correction as the warden secretary with twenty-five years of service. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Luverne Knowles and two brothers, Billy Knowles and Bobby Knowles.

Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband of fifty years, Wayne Godwin of Century; two sons, Marcus (Allison) Godwin and Brandon Godwin of Century; one daughter, Lisa Godwin (Daniel) Hoomes of Century; two sisters, Ruby Jean (Archie) Phillips of Crossville, Tenn. and Patricia Crews, of Brewton, Ala.; four grandchildren, Shelton Blair, Lucas Blair, Hunter Godwin and Colby Graham, all of Century; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mae Fannie Brown       

Ms. Mae Fannie Brown, age 88, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was a native of Monroe County and had been a resident of Atmore most of her life. She was a member of Gaines Chapel AME where she was a member of the Senior Choir. She was a retired presser at a local dry cleaners. She had a love for flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. S. Brown, Sr.; her parents, Joe and Cornelia Roberts and her brothers, Calvin Roberts, Melvin Roberts, and John Nealy Roberts.

Ms. Brown is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Bazemore Mason and Brunetta Bradford, both of Atmore; three sons, S.J. Brown, Jr. and Gregory Brown, both of Atmore and J. S. Brown of Phenix City, Ala.; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-great- granddaughter; very devoted and close friends, Mrs. Myrtle Wallace and Mrs. Mattie Hetherington and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Gaines Chapel AME Church, Atmore with Rev. Amos Smith, Pastor, officiating. Interment in Stallworth Cemetery.

Ernestine Welker

Ms. Ernestine Welker, age 79, of Perdido, Ala., passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. She was born to the late Rosie Lee Welker and the late Anderson S. Mobley. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church, Perdido.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and three brothers, Joe, McArthur and Larry.

Ms. Welker is survived by her daughters, Anyiah and Lejour, both of Perdido; children whom she raised, Tina, Jeorking, Bryan, Jessica, Jataeja of Long Beach, N.Y., Enchante of Bay Minette, Ala. and Justin of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Mollie and Velma of Perdido, Dorothy of Syracuse, N.Y. and Theresa of Long Beach; brothers, Leroy (Elizabeth) of Atmore, Howard of Perdido and Michael of Niagra Falls, N.Y. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 3 p.m. at St. Tomas A.M>E. Zion Church with Rev. Kenta Grissett, Pastor officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tracy Mobley, Jamie Welker, Jerry Oliver, Jeorking Welker, Bryan Welker and Christopher Johnson, Sr.

Honorary pallbearers were Randy McCall and Eddie German.

Lillie Mae Boykins Simmons

Ms. Lillie Mae Boykins Simmons, age 72, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. She was born in Atmore, Al. to Julius and Mary Lelia Boykins. She attended Escambia County Training School. She lived in Pahokee, Fla. for more than thirty years and was a faithful member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church and then upon returning to Atmore attended Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed nurturing her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her father, Julius Boykins and mother, Mary L. Rothschild Williams; stepfather, Frank Williams; nephew, Toby Bristol; brothers, Eddie Rothschild and Julius Boykins, Jr. and grandchild, Miracle America.

Ms. Simmons is survived by five children, Rose Simmons, Trena Boykins, both of Atmore, Lawrence Boykins of Minneapolis, Minn., Ramona (Willie) of Orlando, Fla. and Anthony (Audrey) Boykins of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; ten grandchildren, Essence Day of Atmore, Chynna Rothschild of Birmingham, Ala., Darreyun  (Ron) Boykins, Jr., of La., Latorick Stallworth of Miss., Edward Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., Qwanzaa Green of Orlando, Zaria Boykins and Kyla Boykins all of Tamarack, Fl., Samona Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., and Brianna Boykins of Minn.; sisters, Mary Ann Boykins of Glen Cove, N.Y., Shirley (Leon) Polnitz of Pensacola, Fla. and Janet Williams of Atmore; brother, Jimmy (Ruby) Boykins of Herdon, Va.; five great-grandchildren; devoted family members and friends; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Catadro North, Pastor officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Edward Taylor, William “Bill” Smiley, Reggie Ross, Joseph Peterson, William America, III, Theodore BoBo Dailey, ZyDion Smiley.

Honorary pallbearers were David Boykins, Kenneth Spellman, Tyrone Clark, Darron Jones.

Betty Glass Loup

Ms. Betty Glass Loup, age 68, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 in Mobile, Ala. She was born to the late Leslie Owen and Berta Lewis Glass on March 8, 1950 in Bay Minette, Ala. She was a retired secretary from the Red Cross and was a member of Liberty Church in Atmore.

Shae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronnie A. Loup and one son, Christian Morton.

Mrs. Loup is survived by her two children, Angelia (David) Messmer and Johnathon “Chad” (Rachel) Morton, all of Barnett’s Crossroads, Ala.; her siblings, Rusty (Janet) Glass of Castleberry, Ala., David (Anita) Glass of Wawbeek, Ala., DeWayne (Brooke) Glass of Pineview, Ala., Barbara Ann Dickson of Elberta, Ala., Jean Sanspree of Canoe, Ala., Brenda (Wayne) Bell of Barnett’s Crossroads, Roberta Strickland of Walnut Hill, Fla., Diane (Ronnie) Byrd of Semmes, Ala. and Susanne Glass of Loxley, Ala.; five grandchildren, Taylor Messmer, Alyssa Messmer, Charles “Drew” Messmer, Johnathon “Aaron” Morton and Kristen Morton and many nieces, nephews and friends.
